It belongs to a 22-year old guy with mental illness & suicide thoughts...coming home from the hospital. The room is very small & I'm getting rid of everything except his computer. I don't want any reminders of the old. The blinds & the walls are white. I don't have enough time to paint the walls.
Any suggestions would do. Colors, smells, paintings, adding curtains etc...

Thanks in advance.

What are his favorite colors?
Don't use a lot of darks [ black, brown, navy, gray ] - too depressing.
The colors most recommended for bedrooms are calm ones - greens, blues, purples. [ not best for people who feel isolated ]
Second would be cozy colors - yellows, peach/coral, warm reds.[ not best for people who feel threetened by small spaces ].
Depending on the nature of his illness, choose bedding/curtain colors carefully. Maybe a print - stripes, quilt?
Does he have a favorite artist? Preferably one without suicidal tendencies. Favorite hobby? Sport? Music?
Try a living plant, and maybe an electric candle [ no real ones for people with self destructive tendencies ].
Happy family and friend photos.
Some throw pillows for the bed, and a comfy reading chair would be good.
An assortment of books, and a clock radio would help.
Good luck!

Since you do not have time to paint the walls, maybe you can do something for the white walls. Curtains, paintings, and bedsheets with cozy and warm colors can do....like warm red, orange, yellow. Just try to avoid white and blue....its very depressing. Try also to avoid clutter in his room....like too much stuff and not in proper order or place. A neat and organize room will lessen the stress of every individual living/using that space. Its also good if you can provide indoor plants in his room and change the lights into a brighter one.

Try to incorporate blues and greens into the decor. Try candles that may remind him of good times (if he enoys the smell of pumpkin pie, or the ocean) Make sure there is plenty of sunlight in the room.

make it bright and colorful, i suggest.
you should make wallpaper, that's easy, you can DIY. then buy other fitments and ornaments base on the main color.
you can refer many beaufitul home pictures on this site, and do it similar.
