Very little has been written about this sculpture. But see pic. and description at http://flickr.com/photos/jeepeenyc/1896138281/in/pool-e-artcasting/
At http://www.nytimes.com/2007/04/20/arts/design/20anci.html
we learn that this statue dates from the 2nd century AD and is a Roman work now displayed in the one of the refurbished spaces of the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
It is most probably that this statue was a copy of a 4th century Greek Statue, like the Roman copy of Eros dating also from the 2nd c. Centocellehttp://www.artregister.com/phoenix_files/roman/eros.html
