I drove through there every week for a year and had no problems. Just be advised that it does snow there and the roads can get slick. I love driving out west as there isn't heavy traffic and the scenery is beautiful all year long. Have a safe trip and take your camera!

I live in another part of New Mexico. It's generally safe to drive to Santa Fe for the most part. The only time it is dangerous to drive there is during or just after a snowstorm. You can experience whiteout conditions or icy and slippery roads. Otherwise, it's pretty safe. It's a dry climate so the snow evaporates pretty quickly and it doesn't snow there all that often either. Maybe a few times a year at the most. I've driven through there in January several times and the only problem I had is that it's quite cold that time of the year. Another problem you might encounter is the high elevation. Santa Fe is about 7000 feet above sea level.

You might watch out for Indians on the war path and their war ponies on the interstate. Just kidding.
Actually had a guy at work from Florida ask me if it was safe to travel in Oklahoma because of hostile Indians.
