All the verses leading up to it are talking about Jesus. Why would that one verse not be about Him and then switch back to talking about Him? Jesus is the Alpha and Omega.

Hi Nina, you have some great answers here - and my heart is very *blessed* to be among so many people of God. I think Billy B has given a clear answer as have some others.
If i can just say - for those who haven't yet received a revelation of the Godhead or Trinity - it won't make any sense - they will continue to believe all references of Alpha & Omega are about God the Father. One day all eyes will see Him - & one day it will all make sense that God the Father ~ God the Son ~ & God the Holy Ghost are one. As one poster said like a shamrock - 3 parts of the same leaf.
Can i say thank you for asking this Q - and God bless and keep all who have answered. I am encouraged so many ppl here know and love Jesus - i've really enjoyed reading the answers.
I believe JW'S are wrong here - but if we all prayed here, a change could take place - lets pray for a revelation of the Godhead for all those who don't yet know - that they might come into the full and complete truth.

Dear Nina,
The Watchtower witnesses are faced with a dilemma then aren't they. For they can either admit that Jesus Christ IS the Almighty God or they simply close their eyes and ears to the Word.
There is a wonderful chart called One Truth Exposes a Thousand Lies - Traits Shared Between Jehovah and Jesus. It can be found at http://www.soulright.com
The chart shows the Bible verses pertaining to
Alpha and Omega
for Jehovah God - Isaiah 41:4; 48:12, Rev. 1:8
for Jesus Christ - Rev. 1:17-18; 2:8; 22:12-16
Notice that in Rev. 1:17-18 the speaker is saying that he was dead. So either the jws believe that Jehovah died or else they must confess that Jesus Christ IS Almighty.
Notice also in Rev. 2:8 we have the First and the Last, who died and came to life again.
Notice that in Rev. 22:12-16 we start with Jesus speaking and finish with Jesus speaking.
Let all those who have ears to hear and eyes to see praise the LORD.
For His glory,
JOYfilled

I don't like Lindancers tone! I can show you where Christ Jesus says that He is the Alpha and omega.Well, let's see, John 1:1 says in the beginning was the Word, the Word was with God and the Word was God....verse 3 goes onto say that Jesus actually created everything and nothing was created apart fom Him so that means He was here since the begining with God the Father. They are one and the same. Now read Revelation.
In Revelation 22:13 Jesus says He is the Alpha and omega. Go down to verse 16 where He is still talking to John. John was being spoken to by Jesus Himself when He said HE was the Alpha and Omega and then in verse 16 HE says, I, JESUS have sent my angel.........same two persons having a conversation since many verses prior to that one. The book of Revlation is a revelation of who God is........Jesus! There can only be one Alpha and Omega, and only One God and only one Truth. Jesus. So for all of you JW'S who are reading this...that is the Truth.

Rev. 1:8 says the Lord God is the Alpha and Omega. That is what Jesus' Father is called in places where the name Jehovah has been removed from the Bible.
Some of the book of Rev. is counsel to early congregations from Jesus, but on the whole it came from his Father....he got it from God, then gave to it an angel and the angel gave it to John. Rev. 1:1
Debbie
PS Many of the ones in Christendom on here answered right that it was God or Jesus' Father.
In modern Bibles, the red lettering making it seem like words of Christ has been removed in most verses.

Well, first of all, the Revelation's complete name is "A Revelation of Our Lord, Jesus Christ" and the entire book is for the purpose of revealing Him in His full power and glory as He is today.
Secondly, reading the entire book IN CONTEXT is very telling. When you get to Rev. 2: 8, we see that He is called "the first and the last", which is the same thing as saying that he is the "Alpha and the Omega" in Rev. 1:8 (the first and last letters of the Greek alphabet). The other thing Rev. 2:8 says about Him is that he "was dead and is alive". Common sense would deduce that Jesus is the only one who died and was raised again to glory. And reading straight through chapters 1 & 2 makes it plainly evident that we are talking about the same person throughout these chapters, as well as throughout the rest of the book.
Something else that is important to know is that, while the Watchtower inserts the name Jehovah in Rev. 1:8, to do so is completely fallicious. Since the word has Hebrew origins (YHWH + the vowels for the Hebrw word for Lord, Adonai), the name cannot be forced into the Greek text of the NT. In fact, the thousands of (NT) GR manuscripts we have, all use “KURIOS” (LORD) or “THEOS” (GOD)—NEVER Jehovah—not even when qyoting the OT.
The Watchtower teaching is FALSE, false, false.

The references to Alpha and Omega in Revelation has at least four deciding factors that need to be considered.
1st.
We must take into account the fact that the word Lord in the NT may apply to either God or to Christ. Thus this word in of itself is non-conclusive.
2nd.
The saying in that scripture states "Lord God" (ASV) (Similarly ACV, DRC, DARBY, etc) This phrasing is only used to describe God Jehovah.
3rd.
Here in 1:8, we see the word "almighty." This word is never used to describe anyone else than Jehovah. Even in Isaiah 9:6 that clearly references Jesus -- he is only said to be a MIGHTY god, which he clearly is.
4th.
If you claim that Jehovah and Jesus are the same, then read Rev 1:1! Whom did Jesus receive the revelation from?
It is abundantly evident that the GLORIFIED Jesus received this Revelation from God himself --ergo, they are not the same person.
^^^^^^^^^
1:1, "Revelation of Jesus Christ, which God gave to him. . ." (ASV)
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
In the other occurrences of Alpha and Omega the phrase is not always accompanied by the 'Almighty' or by 'Lord God' for this reason there may be some difficulty determining if the phrase is used only about God or also about Jesus. We have to remember that both God and Christ are called savior.
However, such a study would probably not produce a unanimous agreement. Even this one will provide me with several thumbs down, I am sure.
If anyone has a question about the trinity, go to my profile and access my homepage from there. It is discussed in detail there.

Only the author of Revelation uses Alpha and Omega the name for God.

When the disciples realized that Jesus was THE LORD, it was clear to them that the Son was one with the Father. So all references to the Almighty, the Saviour, the Redeemer apply to Jesus Christ. The Old Testament should be read in the light of the New Testament.

Revelation 1:8 I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the ending, saith the Lord, which is, and which was, and which is to come, the Almighty.
Revelation 1:9 I John, who also am your brother, and companion in tribulation, and in the kingdom and patience of Jesus Christ, was in the isle that is called Patmos, for the word of God, and for the testimony of Jesus Christ.
Revelation 1:10 I was in the Spirit on the Lord's day, and heard behind me a great voice, as of a trumpet,
Revelation 1:11 Saying, I am Alpha and Omega, the first and the last: and, What thou seest, write in a book, and send [it] unto the seven churches which are in Asia; unto Ephesus, and unto Smyrna, and unto Pergamos, and unto Thyatira, and unto Sardis, and unto Philadelphia, and unto Laodicea.
Revelation 1:12 And I turned to see the voice that spake with me. And being turned, I saw seven golden candlesticks;
Revelation 1:13 And in the midst of the seven candlesticks [one] like unto the Son of man, clothed with a garment down to the foot, and girt about the paps with a golden girdle.
Revelation 1:14 His head and [his] hairs [were] white like wool, as white as snow; and his eyes [were] as a flame of fire;
Revelation 1:15 And his feet like unto fine brass, as if they burned in a furnace; and his voice as the sound of many waters.
Revelation 1:16 And he had in his right hand seven stars: and out of his mouth went a sharp twoedged sword: and his countenance [was] as the sun shineth in his strength.
Revelation 1:17 And when I saw him, I fell at his feet as dead. And he laid his right hand upon me, saying unto me, Fear not; I am the first and the last:
Revelation 22:13 I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end, the first and the last.
In chapter 22:13 above Jesus also says "I AM THE FIRST AND THE LAST."
Now go back to Revelation 1:11 and Revelation 1:17 which is a continuation of Jesus speaking and both times He says again "I am the First and The Last."

This is my understanding:
God is in christ as Christ is in a Christian. (it's God in Christ in you!) This issue has split up way too much of the (singular) church. The Alpha and Omega is God. However God predetermined the word and the word was with God and God excisted at the beginning and the end (alpha and omega) (John 1 or something). So Jesus is the key of all creation (God's word).
As long as you love and trust Jesus your good right? So what i've learned is just don't make a huge issue out of things that don't matter to people's salvation and relationship with God. Let God reveal the truth to those who are hungry and humble through his word. Arguing with them won't help just love.
