It is possible to rent a car with a Canadian licence but if you are under 25 it might not be possible to rent a car. Some car hire companies have an age restriction.

You need an international drivers license (IDL). All you have to do is go to CAA and get it. You'll need a valid Canadian drivers license (which must be carried at all times with the IDL), 2 passport photos, and around $15. You should be able to rent a car in Australia with the IDL.

Yes.
You can drive here on your Canadian licence, for up to 3 months.
It must be written in English and include a photo.
This is from the Transport Queensland website but it's much the same all over Australia.

Driving in Queensland with an international licence.
When can I drive in Queensland on my foreign driver licence?
You are only allowed to drive in Queensland on your interstate or foreign driver licence if you:
1. only drive the class of motor vehicle authorised on that licence
2. comply with the conditions (if any) of your licence
3. carry your licence with you at all times when driving and immediately show it to a police office when asked to do so.
When am I not allowed to drive in Queensland on my foreign driver licence?
You must not drive in Queensland on your interstate or foreign driver licence if:
1. you have been disqualified from holding or obtaining a driver licence by an order of an Australian court
2. your authority to drive on the licence has been suspended or withdrawn.

ultimately, it will still be up to the rental car company.... though it will be legal to the government, it's the rental company's car and they can decide who qualifies to drive it at their own discretion
