Myself, I would stay well away from marijuana - because:
1. It's bad for your lungs - tar, particulates (fancy name for soot), cancer-causing chemicals, just like tobacco. Can cause bronchitis, chronic obstructive lung disease, etc.
2. It's known to have psychological effects (aside from those that users hope for) - reduced motivation, depression - and the jury is still out on whether marijuana causes psychosis, but the anecdotal evidence is looking strong.
3. Some people I have talked with who have used it say they really didn't like the "high" it gave them - made them feel really anxious, scared or paranoid.
4. The "munchies" that invariably follow can make weight control difficult.
5. It's known to reduce fertility (for some people that mightn't be such a negative - you'll have to work that one out for yourself... but I wouldn't recommend it as a contraceptive technique either!).
6. No-one sober wants to be around a stoner - stoned people are just soooooooo boring.
7. The active ingredient in marijuana, THC (tetrahydrocannibinol) is fat-soluble - which means that once you've used marijuana, some of it can hide in your body as an unpleasant surprise for later - one of the reasons users of marijuana and LSD have "flashbacks".

Never do it- it's addictive. You may lose the friendship you have with that person if you do because the only thing you will have in common is that you smoke. Try to enjoy his company without marijuana.
