Hi there again Tanya...You can purchase Praziquantel tablets for cats from most pet stores to use for tapeworms, but in order to eliminate fleas "safely" Advantage, Frontline, Revolution are the best which I know are quite expensive. Consider ringing a few shelters in your area or veterinary hospital and inquire if anyone knows of who may have programs for low income assitance. Some vets do offer low cost treatment assistance in various areas.

Whoever mentioned to you that garlic powder is safe to eliminate fleas unfortunately misled you as this can be deadly for cats: http://www.peteducation.com:80/article.cfm?cls=1&cat=1935&articleid=2414

To ensure the future safety and wellbeing of your cats please only entrust a licenced professional rather than anyone as it can become more expensive medically to treat your kitties than saving money up front.

There are many home remedies to get rid of fleas, but none of them work I'm afraid. People on here are going to suggest garlic, salt, dawn dish soap, maybe neem oil. Please don't waste your time. You also cannot get useful treatments from stores - stores are not licensed to sell the treatments that actually work.

Veterinary flea and worm treatments are indeed more expensive, but if you consider the fact that they actually work they are in fact the best value for money.

There are certainly no home remedies for tapeworm, I'm afraid. You need to get some Drontal or Milbemax from your vet or whatever the vet carries.

Sorry, cats cost money.
The only thing I know helps against fleas is Advantage or Frontline. A bit costly but works like charm (tip - in Europe it's cheaper. If you know someone who goes there ask them to get you some).
As for tapeworms - ask your vet. Probably only pills will help.

No for tapeworms.
For info on flea control go to my 360 page and the first entry in my Blog is about fleas. It's really long, but goes step by step.
