We forgive not because we want to. But because if we don't God won't forgive us. It's not easy, just an order from the Almighty.

When I first started this journey, I didn't really understand what all the "forgiveness" was about. Honestly. I looked to God for help. Long story short, I finally got it and when I finally forgave the person I needed to forgive, it was too late. We must learn to forgive others, but also forgive ourselves. Matt 18:21, Luke 17:3 - 5. Mark 11:24 - 25 When you don't forgive, God won't forgive you.

Forgiveness frees us from hate and resentment. We do not have to again trust the person who hurt us. The Bible no where says 'forgive and forget'. God does, but we are not admonished to forget but to be wise and forgive.
People are human, imperfect and human nature is inherently not trustworthy. If you find someone who is, you should treasure him/her.
But we should not put our faith in other people, even, maybe especially Christians who are tempted over and above other people.
We should place our trust in Jesus alone who will never betray us or hurt us or leave us.

yes, i do forgive people.....some ppl take longer, but i do try to forgive ppl. umm i guess wat helps motivate me to forgive someone who has done me wrong is that it is wat Jesus/God told us to do. He said that we are to forgive someone 70 times 7 which is basically all the time. and the big one that gets me is that it is exactly wat He did for all of us when He died on the cross for our sins--He wiped away all of our sins, He forgave each & every one & even the ones that we have yet to commit! why shouldn't i forgive someone? BUT it is extremely hard!!! i know sometimes that i deliberately choose not to forgive someone because i wanna stay mad @ that person & once i forgive that person i hafta forget about it, sos i choose not to. but i will eventually forgive that person, and once i do i feel a whole lot better & im able to repair the relationship with that person. i know alot of the time we don't want to forgive, but in the end it is well worth it! :)
