Why some of you can't help others to translate and send them to translation sites? It is so easy to help. If they don't want to learn that is up to them but you have the satisfaction that you help.

The syntax of your question is ambiguous. You are either asking:

1) Why don't you help instead of sending them to a translation site?

2) Why don't you help by sending them to a translation site?

If your question is 1, I agree with you, translation sites are terrible places to either get accurate translations or to learn the language.

If your question is 2, then you are sadly mistaken about the value of translation sites and they hurt more than help.

Boricua 1,

I know of a translation web site where you can get human translators for free in many languages for short or relatively short sentences.

The problem is that when I have recommended it to people on this site and other internet language sites, the people turned out to be ingrates. So, I stopped recommending it.

It reminds me of that old saying that "Good intentions sometimes have counterproductive results."

The reason I help with the translations is because the online translators don't really translate; they do word recognition and don't include syntax or anything other than word to word translations.

I do both BECAUSE the person asking the question will continue to do it over and over and over and over again - like the ones who want you to do their homework, and it's better to teach someone how to help him/herself than to allow him/her to continue in a co-dependent situation.

I will give the translation, but I will also give the site where they can go and get an answer without clogging up YA. I'm sure it also makes them feel better about themselves if they are able to do the work for themselves.
