a HIGH quality CRT television will blow the others out of the water in performance, CRT by far has the most accurate colour representation, higher contrast ratio and blacker black levels, and a high end CRT is also cheaper, as they have decades of experience in manufacturing them. (having said this LCDs and plasmas are improving very quickly and are nearly comparable, but at a very high price in comparison)

A CRT TV on the high end of the market is HUGE, the back will be enormous and it will be far too heavy to safely lift on your own, so you obviously can't have it hanging on your wall or flush with your speakers. This is alot of the reason why plasmas and LCDs have become so popular.

wether or not you own a 'high end' CRT is up for you to decide, oh and also keep in mind that a CRT is alot more fragile than an LCD or plasma aswell, and is very easily affected by external things, such as heavily magnetised speakers near by.

CRT televisions are mature technologies. They've been developed for 60 years and are very very good at what they do and for reliability.

I have a Sony 34" CRT type flat widescreen HDTV. It's an excellent picture. It's also one heavy son of a *****, probably weighing in close to 200 lbs.

Would I buy it today? No. LCDs and plasmas have just come down so much in price, and their quality has improved so much, I would go with one of those.

I have a crt tube HDTV. I bought it when hdtv's first came out. I also have 2 hd LCD's. I must say that the tube TV has the best picture. I think it's because the black level is sooo much better.

However, I prefer the LCD's cuz they are small and flat. My tube tv is a giant beast and it weighs a ton!
