The main similarities are: We never should have gone into either country. They were both lost causes from the get-go. We couldn't and didn't win in Vietnam and we can't and won't win in Iraq.

relatively the two wars are a international aside. finished style of casualties interior the Vietnam conflict reached greater suitable than 70 thousand American troops on an identical time as we at the instant are speaking approximately around 3 thousand American troops killed in Iraq so some distance. the U. S. government has scheduled an end to the defense force presence in Iraq at an identical time with the residing community government and that's seen as a type of victory. regardless of the reality that the conflict in Iraq went something yet easily with quite a few blunders and at cases issues looked irreversibly undesirable, taking a sober seem at ingredient now you're able to count style this marketing campaign as a average achievement. of direction all reckoning on how issues prove yet with the Iraqi government and who they chosen to count style as their acquaintances or foes. yet from a contemporary perspective- Saddam Hussein is long gone - there's a parliamentary government in Iraq that's yet to mature yet could grow to be stable and open. The sectarian violence is a great deal decreased and reconstruction is heading in the right direction. I wouldnt say that the destiny seems outstanding in spite of the shown fact that it deifnitley doesnt seem as grim because it did a pair of years in the past. on the different hand Vietnam replaced right into a finished failure. The individuals suffered huge losses in workers and treasure and withdrawed without a unmarried acomplishement to their choose. The north vientamese proceeded to take over the south inflicting terror and mayhem, and Vietnam as an entire joined the Soveit sphere of effect for something of the chilly conflict. 2 very different wars with 2 very different consequences.

The only true similiarity is that both conflicts had insurgency phases, which we were initially poorly equipped to handle. In both conflicts we develope the training and dooctrine to handle it.
This is only true in the broadest sense. The two conflicts do not compare well in the details.
Scope--Vietnam was an isolated "hot" conflict in the Cold War/Iraq is one active campaign of many in the Global War on Terror
Mission--Vietnam; support and defend the government of the Republic of Vietnam against invasion form the North and a local insurgency/Iraq; remove the government of Iraq and support the Iraqis in replacing it; fight and defeat a foreign insurgency; quell domestic violence
Enemy--North Vietnamese and Southern sympathizers/Saddam Hussein's regieme-al Qaeda and other terror groups-ethnic militias
Terrain--Jungle/Desert
Troops--A mixed volunteer and conscript miltiary--upwards of 500,000 at any one time/All volunteer military--around 300,000 at anyone time.

The main similarities are.....the politicians got involved. It appears we have lost every war...even Korea...because Politicians got involved. The way I look at it...the politicians have their chance before the war is stated....but once it starts...it should be left up to the military. They keep of from bombing the north in both Korea and Vietnam...which allowed them to build up forces where you couldn't touch them. The over-ran almost all out camps....then the politicians wanted to pull out.....leave hundreds of civilians to die because they helped us....this will also happen in Iraq if we leave there before we get a chance to go in and kick some
B u T T. Politicians had their chance...now stay out of it and let the Servicemen and women do the job they were sent there for.

the only similarities I see is retarded civilians thinking they know what is best for people that willingly join the military to defend their rights to protest a war they don't agree with.

American troops fighting thousands of miles from home for the freedoms of others while liberals dishonor, ridicule and protest them. The media telling Americans lies, Tet Offensive and Surge both successes in truth but losses in the minds of liberals.
