Pioneer DV-400V-K or DVP5982/37 DVD Player
Philips DVP5982/? any other recommendation.

i got ps3, but my parent watch alot vcd and asian region dvd. so therefore i need a dvd player can play that.

under 100 only, oppops too much i can't buy hddvd player with that price tag.

I can only speak for the Phillips model. I have the 5960 and it works great. My tv is a sony 42" 1080i, and for what I paid for the DVD, it looks amazing, and plays avi, mpg, wmv, asf etc.....

by the way, it's $60. and you can wait until HDdvd and bluray (beta/vhs) finally settle on one format. Or in my opinion, settle on "none of the above".

Go with HD-DVD or Blu-Ray. In addition to better upconversion than the ones you are considering, they also play new types of DVDs. HD-DVD start at under $200 plus 5 free movies, BluRay at about $400, with 5 free movies.

if your tv is hd then upconversion is already taking place only true hd player will make much difference
