I've been playing guitar for six years now and I am 13 yrs old, almost 14. I'm really young so I figured that would be kind of a cool spin to what I'm asking about...I want to be famous or at least get myself out there, but I don't know what to do! I don't have a band and I can sing but don't like to in front of people. But...

I have a really good ear and pick up on songs easily
My best song is For the Love of God by Steve Vai (I don't like that kind of music but it can be fun to play. I would love to be a Jack Johnson or Dashboard Confessional with mebeing the main person but with a band behind me)

What should I do? There aren't guitar contests or anything (thats why athletes, etc. have an advantage) and I can't get "gigs" if I'm 13 and don't have a band. Being famous is a stretch, but how can I start?

Forget about the famous part. Concentrate on your guitar playing and singing before an audience. That is where the real joy comes from so work on your confidence in front of others. Practice at home in front of siblings and parents, cousins and neighbors.

You're still young and must finish high school first. Meanwhile, you can devote your remaining energies into music and make it live through you.

If money and fame is possible for you, then they will come. Be yourself, but a confident, musically-gifted personality. All the rest will fall into place.

Okay, First being in front of people singing etc you will get used to.
You have to start somewhere, best advise would be to find some other girls and start a band. Then you can gaing some experience. Try to write song.

learn some song for your band that are popular like arville levene, green day watever etc, whatever is popular with kids in your school friends etc. These song you will play with band at parties etc.

For you own ability and to be bad *** guitarist.
Learn arpggios, Learn yngwie malmstein tunes, black star and far beyond the sun for you own benefit.
Learn Joe Satriani songs, check out albums extremist, surfing with the alien. Joe taught Steve vai how to play before Vai went to Berklee college of music.

Get the book called, Berklee modern method for guitar by bill leavit. This is the book I study from and Steve Vai, Joe perry from aero smith, tom sholtz from boston.

All of the best guitar players read music, The berklee book will teach you music and give excersize for picking speed everything.

Good Luck

Ok stop focusing on the word famous. DO you want to be successful? You are so young and have much more to learn, keep honing in on your skills. Try to overcome your fear of singing in public. Go to the nearest recording studio and offer your services. At your age you might not get paid much, but the experience will be invaluable. The future is bright!!

how do you expect to be famous if you dont liek to sing infront of people
and to become "famous" like you want it is a huge long shot
it could happen who knows but realistically thinking its very doubtful

something you could do is become a studio musician
which records stuff for famous bands
as long as you have talent in playing/singing you should do fine in the feild
