is a sin? In moderation, of course. I have read all the health benefits of red wine, but wonder if it is a sin to do this.

Serious answers only, please.

God has provided us wine as well as many other wonderful gifts. The key is to us it and not abuse it. Do everything to the Glory of God.

The Bible tells us to "avoid the very appearance of evil." I believe that it is wrong to drink anything that is alcoholic. People that use the excuse, "it's good for my health" are just wanting an excuse to drink. Those same people probably don't eat well or exercise either. What's the point of drinking something toxic when you can drink a smoothie or something that is refreshing and won't give you a hangover? Yes, Jesus did indeed turn water into wine... but I can assure you that Jesus wouldn't create anything that would be toxic or corrupted with alcohol. The Bible just says, "wine" whether it is fermented or unfermented. We can't just assume that it meant that it was fermented. When in doubt, don't do it. If it will bring you condemnation... don't do it. Romans 8 says that there is NO condemnation in Christ. I wouldn't recommend it. I think that sin takes you farther than you want to go and keeps you longer than you want to stay. You certainly don't want to wind up as an alcoholic. Do not dabble in sin. Live as clean of a life as you can. Be stronger than the forces of the world trying to persuade you.

They are now saying you would have to drink 30 some odd glasses of wine to be an actual benefit, the wine that they drank in the biblical days was diluted with water, and was not that strong, as the wine today,
If we read in the Bible it is definitely a sin to be drunk with wine, when some take to alcohol or addictions, it is putting thier addiction above God, worshipping a false Idol.
We must know when to draw a line, if we think something is not good for us, it probably is not.

Romans 14:21 puts it in the same category as vegetarianism-something that is usually OK but you shouldn't do if it makes your brother stumble.

Jesus' first miracle was turning water into wine (people were even getting drunk off the wine that had just run out).

1 Timothy 3:8 speaks only against "much" wine.

Paul urged Timothy to use wine for health reasons in 1 Timothy 5:23.

There appears to be differences between "overseers" and "deacons" in 1 Timothy 3 and a Bishop or Elder verses others in Titus 1:7 versus Titus 2:3.

If you knew the Bible like you are trying to make us think you do, you'd know that there's NOTHING in the Bible that says drinking wine is a sin. If it's a sin, why did Jesus turn water into wine?
1 Timothy 5:23 even says :"No longer drink only water, but use a little wine for your stomach's sake and your frequent infirmities. " (NKJV) or "No longer drink water exclusively, but use a little wine for the sake of your stomach and your frequent ailments." (NAS) or "Stop drinking only water, and use a little wine because of your stomach and your frequent illnesses." (NIV)
But, in all things, do in moderation (paraphrased). And, no I cannot locate the passage at this time.
If it's a SIN, then Catholics have been sinning during communion for centuries, as well as some other denominations.
Does an alcoholic Catholic take communion and drink the wine? Seriously.

Suzi,

The first public miracle of Jesus was at the Wedding feast at Cana where he provided wine for the festivities after the wine provided for by the hosts was drunk. I think drunkenness is a sin and this is clear in the scriptures. I think it is a Christian's individual choice to drink or not. There is merit in not drinking at all, but that does not mean that there is any harm in the occasional social drink either.

Leviticus 10:9
Do not drink wine nor strong drink, thou, nor thy sons with thee, when ye go into the tabernacle of the congregation, lest ye die: it shall be a statute for ever throughout your generations:

The sons of Aaron offered strange fire unto the LORD and was punished for doing so. If you believe that you are a part of the royal priesthood, dedicated and engaged to be married to Jesus you would not taste a wine. You are a Temple of the Holy Spirit bought with a price, glorify God with your body which is not yours.

Luke 1:15
For he shall be great in the sight of the Lord, and shall drink neither wine nor strong drink; and he shall be filled with the Holy Ghost, even from his mother's womb.

If wine is the same wine that we have, why did the Bible used strong drink? It is obvious the word wine in Bible times is just a grape juice extracts.

Proverbs 20:1
Wine is a mocker, strong drink is raging: and whosoever is deceived thereby is not wise.

If your intoxicated, are you still controlled by the Holy Spirit? or the spirit of wine?

God gave us liberties, we must not use that liberty as an excuse to fulfill our lust of the flesh(cravings for liquor).

Wine would only hurt our testimony, why take it. Wine were always drink with socilalizing, isn't it awkward for a son of God to join drinking sessions?...

I agree with Dave C...

No Suzi. No it is not a sin to drink wine for everybody. It is a sin for me to drink wine because I was an alcoholic. I have sworn off all booze forever and therefore it is a sin for me if I go back on my word. Just do not drink too much wine which is a sin.

No, it is not a sin to drink win. This belief is man made and holds no value in scripture.

The first miracle or sign that Jesus performed was turning water into wine.

Moderation is the key to sin, I believe. Not like -- hey, it's OK to do this or do that (obviously, killing someone wouldn't be cool, even if it was done in moderation). But little sins, you know, if you don't do them often or excessively (as the first answer states, don't get drunk) then I believe it is OK. I would still ask for forgiveness just in case, but that is just me.

If you know deep down something is wrong with what you are doing, then it is probably a sin.

In moderation without you feeling lightheaded is ok.

Luke 21:34 And take heed to yourselves, lest at any time your hearts be overcharged with surfeiting, and drunkenness, and cares of this life, and so that day come upon you unawares.

Romans 13:13 Let us walk honestly, as in the day; not in rioting and drunkenness, not in chambering and wantonness, not in strife and envying.

Ephesians 5:18 And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit;

1 Timothy 3:8 Likewise must the deacons be grave, not doubletongued, not given to much wine, not greedy of filthy lucre;

Titus 1:7 For a bishop must be blameless, as the steward of God; not selfwilled, not soon angry, not given to wine, no striker, not given to filthy lucre;
