It's not O.K. My wifes mother was run down by a drunk driver. The grandchildren and family members suffered greatly. Anyone that tells you they can "handle it" is lying to you and themselves. Some of the most powerfull and wealthy people in the world have fallen victim to it's negative effects. It destroys families and nations(ask the Indian reservations about its effects) Socially acceptable? NO! Socially Responsible? NO!

Being drunk just shows a lack of self control or a way of burying personal issues temporarily. Drinking socially is fine, but knowing where to draw the line is difficult for most people because they want to be part of the crowd. Its no different than getting high on grass or any other drug, the effect is the same.

What about it do you find to be so wrong? Personally, I think people should be judged by their actions while drunk, not just that they are drunk. If someone is violent, beligerant, of offensive while intoxicated, that is a problem. If another person is a little silly, has fun, and causes no harm to anyone, I do not see the problem.
EDIT: I agree with Barbara

The problem is how some people define "drunk."
Some people define drunk as being a little loud or giggly after a drink or two. Others define it as being totally inebriated and unable to make rational choices, possibly blacking out and making yourself sick.
What it really comes down to is moderation. Absolutely nothing is good for you in massive amounts. Everything in moderation.

well people drink and drive because when you're drunk, you lose yourself and do things you wouldn't normally do. i've done all kinds of stupid stuff when i'm drunk that i said i would NEVER do- like drinking and driving (no one wrecked on got hurt) and having sex with guys.
For those who drink, learn to be responsible or make sure there is some one there who is sober that will watch you. muy importante!
and people drink because 1.) they have a lot of fun being drunk! 2.) every one else at the party is doing it 3.) to get there mind off things 4.)they are depressed<< NEVER a good reason to drink! it will make it worse!

As long as you don't drink and drive, getting drunk isn't really a big deal. Or at least it isn't NOT OK.
Personally, I cut myself off at tipsy-silly-everything-is-funny and don't allow myself to get stumbling-and-puking-drunk. And I NEVER drink and drive; haha thank goodness for designated drivers. So there's really no big deal.

Sure it's ok. Just because somebody drinks doesn't mean they're gonna drink and drive. You're talking about two totally separate things. Me having a few glasses of wine doesn't affect you or anybody else at all.

Being drunk is OK.
Drunk driving is wrong. That's why you have to appoint a designated driver first!
I usually crash at a party.I always plan to so I don't have to worry about going home.
