Why are your grades bad - not doing your homework or studying? All entrants to the military must take the ASVAB (Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery) test. Whether or not you pass will determine if you can enlist in any branch ot the military. One reason is to see if you will be able to follow orders and/or instruction while training.

Cant speak specifically for Coast Guard but for other branches grades don't matter. A diploma does and what you learned does. You will have to take the ASVAB and that test will decide what jobs you can get or if you can join at all. If you're a rock head and cant pass a written exam you could have straight A's and not be able to join.

I just applied for the Air Force. Your grades matter if you want to go to the Coast Guard Academy. They don't matter if you want to enlist.
