Why do we have to have shingles on the roofs of our houses? We can still have the peek on the roof but why can't, like the sides of the house that is made with siding, why can't we have the roof made of siding or the roof made of concret or brick?

well most people want a roof that is water tight, but if you would rather have siding on your roof go ahead and nail it on girl. Just keep an umbrella handy when it starts storming.

Shingles have a design that has been perfected over centuries that by their very nature do the best job of shedding water, which is the purpose of them anyway. Today's composite shingles last longer than their predecessors, except the wood shingles, which are pretty much the same as they have been for centuries, only the application method has been improved. Also to address your issue about concrete roofs, well some roofing materials are actually made out of a cementious composite , that are applied like shingles, only last for a very long time. And then there are the tile roofs consistent with spanish design that have been used for centuries, that are made of a clay.
Most siding that I am aware of, just does not lend itself to withstand the kind of abuse that a roof takes, nor is it designed to shed water effectively, so stay with shingles, you will be much happier

It's obvious you know nothing about home building. I hope if you are building you are leaving it to the professionals. This is just silly.
