This may sound a little weird, but it works for me. TV can act as a stimulant, even if you're in a relaxed position watching it. Try this: take a nice hot shower, then put in some earplugs and sit in the dark (with one window you can look out of) for a half hour or until you feel sleepy. You will find that your body and mind settle down and slow down so you can sleep better. Call it sensory deprivation, or meditation, or whatever you like, but sitting in the dark with earplugs for awhile settles me down and reduces my anxiety. Try it and see if it helps.

No food or caffine before bed, maybe take a bath or shower to relax and try to take your mind off whatever's bothering you. Read a book, watch some easy TV, or peaceful music and although it's old hat, counting sheep does work! Well, the concept does - just think about something relaxing, maybe you on a beach, or walking through the park, or even lyrics to your favourite song and hopefully you'll soon drift off.
Good night!

When I can't sleep (basically every day) I turn on music. Not anything energetic or something like that, calm music. Try taking a hot shower or bath, and don't eat before you sleep. Just take some time to think about the things that are good in your life.
Hope this helped :)

See insomnia treatments, at http://www.ezy-build.net.nz/~shaneris in section 3, and see stress, in section 42. Use one of the relaxation methods, but they can take some time to learn, (muscular relaxation excepted) so practice now, and if it doesn't come to you, use the EFT, in bed, after lights out. Repeat to yourself: "I fully and completely accept myself, even though I'm having trouble sleeping", as you massage your temples, or use the acupressure tapping technique. Begin now, to find out, so you will know what to use, when, and how.

You can try a very warm bath, try some aroma therapy with I think lilac, drink a warm cup of milk, try reading to make your eyes tired...maybe a magazine, avoid caffeine if possible and if you must have it (like me) limit it to only in the morning. You can also put on some soothing music like Celtic music or the sounds of the ocean. Try some deep breathing or meditation.
