By "turning the other cheek", it means that we should still forgive you. Of course we could still rightfully file assault charges against you too.

Have yo not known? Have you not heard? Mat 5:39 But I say unto you, That ye resist not evil: but whosoever shall smite thee on thy right cheek, turn to him the other also.

In the OT, the recompense was an eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth....... Here the Lord Jesus is teaching compassion and teaching His disciples not to take revenge as if like in the OT.

Doubt it is literal.

Did you not know that, the Lord Jesus turned the tables upon the moneychangers and profiteers in the Temple TWICE?? He had even made a scourge to chase them out!!

John 2:14-15 And found in the temple those that sold oxen and sheep and doves, and the changers of money sitting: And when He had made a scourge of small cords, He drove them all out of the temple, and the sheep, and the oxen; and poured out the changers' money, and overthrew the tables;

Mat 21:12 And Jesus went into the temple of God, and cast out all them that sold and bought in the temple, and overthrew the tables of the moneychangers, and the seats of them that sold doves,

Biblical Christianity is not what the world have you believe. God is not Santa Claus, ............. and taking a few words from the Scripture can really twist it out of context, which the atheists are wont to do!! Wait till you hear our imprecatory prayers......

Of course not! You have misunderstood one of Jesus' teachings. Turning the other cheek refers to insults and not physical attacks. I am quite sure that a Christian would defend themselves just as the Bible teaches. When Jesus was struck by the guard after His arrest He did not turn the other cheek but stood defiantly instead.

Why would you punch a Christian (capital letter, proper noun)? Just because you wanted to? The Bible (capital letter, proper noun!) says that you should turn the other cheek, but there's nothing wrong with defending yourself. Sure, if He says you should just let it go, then do that. But He's just saying don't do something to that person just for revenge.

Well that wouldn't be very nice, would it? In olden days they could murder you for being an infidel, but these days it's more of a 'roll over and take a beating' attitude that's taught.

Saying that, most Christians I know are incredibly hypocritical (not just a sweeping statement, I can assure you), so I'd imagine you'd be receiving a smack in the face back, mate.

Well i dont know why you would punch a christian but i seriously doubt they would "turn the other cheek". The old teachings are rarely used now

Yes, or theyd run. At least thats what i'd do. Returning violence with violence is completely pointless. If someone is so insecure to randomly punch someone in the face, you might as well give them the satisfaction of running away or acting wimpy. They obviously have nothing else going for them in life.

God bless!

I've never been hit but I've had people pull all kinds of mean stuff on me and say with a grin, 'Oh, but if you want to prove you're a Christian, you'll forgive me, right?" I just walk away, but sometimes it is very hard, and I realize how far from Christ's example I am.

Just because a Christian is required to forgive people by God. It does not mean we are a punching bag to be abused.

I wouldn't count on it Christians carry handguns and know how to use them within the limits of the law. Displaying the ability, opportunity, and intent to cause serious bodily injury or death will get you shot.
