Most store associates are barely paid above minimum wage, so I really don't understand the customers who think that these poor people are suppose to just put up with their crap. It's just plain rude, and I bet they wouldn't like to be treated like that at their jobs.

See you did it too. You assumed that it's my only job. I have a better job and a college education. I work there for the discount as do many of my co-workers.

Because they think they can get away with it. They know if the clerk tells them off, they can get in a lot of trouble or lose their job. It is about power. They know if they degrade someone on the street they might get punched in the face, but if they abuse a store clerk they are likely to get away with it. Buisness owners should not allow customers to abuse their staff but they don't want to lose their buisness.

That's a good question. I think that there are some customers who feel that they are better than the sales clerk because they are the ones spending the money in their store or that they have better jobs than being a sales clerk so they feel they need to flaunt their power or snubness around. But on the otherhand, I have met some rude and arrogant sales clerk that need customer service training. These sales clerk maybe the reason why some customers treat sales clerk poorly because they are sick and tired of meeting these types of clerks.

Some people are just big meanies, they think that it's alright to be rude to those in the position of serving them, and that's not right. I've been a clerk, I've been through it too. Let's not forget, however, the clerks who feel free to not do their job and are rude to their customers; it goes both ways, but it's never right on either side.

They are likely frustrated, and fed up with high prices and poor service. Just be nice as you can be, and do your job well.

I was in a store the other day, I was the only customer in the store. (Olympia Sports). There were 3 workers, behind the counter, one was on her cellphone with her bf... the other two were talking about getting drunk the night before... I looked around the store, and went to the counter to ask a question. I was treated to... the one on the cellphone, glaring at me, while the other two vanished... my question was never answered... I left without making a purchase, which I had intended to make, and I wrote a letter to the manager...

Many people are treated badly at work, but it's no excuse to do it to someone else. The real reason people do that is because they think they're better than you; they have more education, more money, better car, etc. They are wrong. Everyone should be treated with respect.
Keep doing the best job you can & one day maybe you'll get promoted. Then you won't have to deal with these idiots.

no they wouldn't. But some people really do believe that the customer is always right and that you are there to serve them. Those type of people are just really self-involved and it has nothing to do with you. So just brush it off. Sometimes you get really nice customers too and they make it worthwhile.

That is a very good question. My mom likes to think she is a good Christian lady, which I suppose most of the time she is. ...but I have my doubts because she treats service people poorly--very unchristlike if you ask me . ..well, if I were to answer your question it would only be speculation but here goes: Because they can. Perhaps they were belittled by their husband that morning and just need to let off steam and vwa-lah, there you are a very easy target. Sad, huh.

I am not defending those rude people, but, there are a lot of rude store clerks out there. I treat people the same way they treat me. If they are rude to me then I am rude to them. If they are nice to me then I am nice to them.

Some people are just incredibly rude, selfish, and mean. When I worked at Wal-mart, one customer made another cashier cry. There's really no excuse for it.
