No, the primer material is located in the rim of the base of the cartridge. While I have never seen .22 rimfire ammo being made, my understnading is that when they add the priming compound to the brass case, the case is spun to cause the priming compound to go into the rim of the brass case.

Although it is only needed in the rim to function, whether it covers the base depends on the manufacturing process. Some makers still spin the cases after the wet priming compound is put in, others put a larger drop in so that it covers the head and runs into the rim. Pull a bullet out of a case with your fingers and look in.

Important gun safety rule: Always use the ammunition designed and designated for your firearm. No, a rimfire cartridge will not work in a centerfire weapon. If you are in possession of any old .32 rimfire ammo you'd probably be better off holding it for possible collector's interest than ruining it by putting a dimple in the center of the case.

Good luck.

No, it doesn't. The primer compound is confined to the inside of the rim recess.

No, it is only on the rim.... modern manufacture ammunition is that way, I don't know about old stuff. You can look in and see if you pull the bullet.
