The hardes, most-motivated "workers" for god and jesus are those freshly recruited or should I say...new believers. these guys know the least about the bible. My theory is that the more you know...the less you will believe. I believed then I read the bible and now I can't believe even if they pay me-the contradictions just hurt my mind! So...is this true-the better you know the bible the less you'll believe?

The more I study the Bible the more I believe the Truths that are in it. Before I read and study the Holy Scriptures, I pray for wisdom and guidance. If people pick up the Bible and try to read it like a regular book, it will make no sense to them. If they read it with divine guidance, they will find no flaw in the Scriptures.

If you take te Bible too literally, you may run into big problems with science and secular history. Remember a majority of the Old Testament was directed towards the people living 3000 years ago. Everything had to be put into understandable terms. I was an athiest but studied the Bible a lot as well as other religions. Once I moved away from a few major issues opposed by science and thatng everything word for word fact. The Bible became increasingly believable. There are parts of Creation, the Flood that were problems. I admit some confusion on my part of the Trinity as I understand 4 different concepts. I'm sorting that out. Shouldn't be long to settle in on a firm belief. Just about all else about the
Bible with other history are very minor really. Mainly that things are a bit inflated or embellished. But all that taken care of by "History is written by the Victors."

I think the answer to your ultimate question is "yes", but I don't think the logic in the middle is what makes it work.
I think that new believers are the best 'workers' because of the same fire that makes any new 'relationship' seem so great. It's that 'new' feeling, brought on by their new relationship with 'God'. It draws other people to want that same kind of feeling. As Christians remain in the church for longer, they don't necessarily know the bible any better, but the new feeling has definitely worn off. The energy is gone.
That said, I do think that the better you know the Bible, the less likely you are to believe in traditional Christianity. If you can manage to read it without the pre-conceived ideas about what it means that have been taught by various religions, you might find that it doesn't necessarily mean what they say it means. Therefore, the better you know the Bible, the less likely you will believe what people feed you about it.

Nope. The more I read the bible the more I believe and become convinced that it is the true word of God. And there are no contradictions in the bible. Actually quite the opposite. To think that of all the separate books of the bible there are, they all fit together like a puzzle. Take the four gospels for example. They are so similar and yet the writers of the gospels never once got together and sat down to write them. They wrote them separately. What are the chances of over thousands of years, that people would write things that all line up?
Sorry but the more I read of the bible, the more I accept it as truth.

New believers do make the hardest workers in the church, However, it sounds like you just got burned. You have to learn to separate the wheat from the chaff. Besides, the Bible says"study to show thyself approved". So, we must know what it says. Do the best you can to follow God. Pray for the heathens inside the church to feel conviction and go on. I understand, though. I left my church after 6 yrs. It will be a yr next month. I loved it there. But I felt invisible, unimportant, and the heathens were getting to me. They just wouldn't do the right thing. So, I felt I must leave. But I've found no place like it. I just feel lost @ sea.

Drum, I respectfully disagree with your idea. I've been studying the bible and reading it for 37 years since I met Jesus on Oct. 21, 1971. I read it through 3 times the first year. God's Word is fascinating. It has all kinds of different books and different things these books show us - wisdom, poetry, history, prophesy, guidance and all the miracles God has performed.

I've memorized passages of the Bible, taken college courses on it and studied it with other women and in my church the Pastor teaches us weekly.

I don't know what lead to your loss of faith. I'm sincerely sorry for you. You are being deceived into missing out on something wonderful that God wants to use in your life.

I hope some day you will ask God to show you truth. He will if you ask for it. I hope you won't blame God if you've run into some bad examples of "Christians" who are shallow, unkind or just people too hard to respect.

God loves you so much, Drum, I would so happy for you to be able to find the love of God for yourself. You must have some reason you are still thinking of the subject. God Bless You!
The longer I know Jesus Christ the more I love Him. He is my reason for living. He is my foundation, my anchor in this life. He is so amazing and He loves me so much. He even shows His sense of humor - He needs it with all the silly things people say and do!

The opposite is true with my life and to my thinking. Your faith seem like a weakly sincere kind from the beginning, like 'the seeds that fall on stoney ground that spring up but quickly die', as Jesus said. You have failed to grow in knowledge of his word like some Christians do. The fault is not the increase of knowledge of the Bible but the lack of it, and a lack of appreciation to God or care for those around you who are not saved. Also, some Christians are more deliberate and less rambunctious as they mature in the faith because they learn that some non-Christians are turned-off or intimidated by such impossible-to-understand excitement.

No, it is not true. If you do know the bible and the truth, you believe. Jesus said that we must be born again in order to see the kingdom of God. We must receive the Spirit of Jesus coming to live in our hearts for us to see the truth.
The basis of the bible is the teaching against sin and to live a life of love toward God and man. That Jesus Christ crucified is the only way to be saved. This is the sum total of the teachings of the New Testament. People complicate the bible but it's very simple. Love God and love others.
The biggest problem people have is they blur the meaning of what real love is; which God teaches us in 1 Cor 13 what real love is. And in Isaiah 58 God tells us what true religion is.

No, the more I rigorously study scripture, including the original Greek and Hebrew languages, the more amazed I am at both the relevance of the texts and the eloquence of the literature. But I have found on this forum a pretty thorough (though not total) unwillingness to understand any interpretation of Scripture that takes into account its cultural, historical, or linguistic underpinnings. I suppose for those people, any attempt at understanding might shake their beliefs, and they find that threatening. Those who do try to really understand (and I said understand, not agree), have been delightful people with whom to have discussions.

This is very sad. I have been a Christian for 40 years. The more I study, the more I understand. The more I understand the more I want to do for Jesus.

I come to this section of Religion and Spirituality because of this type of question. People who have been hurt in life or do not understand concepts. I hope to show in a loving and caring manner my love of humanity and maybe help them understand something. Not that I know it all, but I do care about others.

It hurts my heart that no one helped you understand the bible. I know you will not believe me, but there are no contradicitons in the Bible.

What the Bible is full of are stories of human beings who accepted or rejected God. It is full of God's love for man and His plan for our salvation.

May Father God bless and keep you.
