When questions like this can be asked in any belief system it is a sign that the system is in need of repair or new paradigms. Questions of this nature are akin to brainwasters like 'how many angels can dance on a pinhead, or can god crea8 a stone too heavy to lift etc' It's like in science the irreconcilable differences between quantum theory and general relativity- the infinities problem.
To 'Thundercat' et al your syllogism concerning causes is invalid. You are quoting Aquinas presumably, who simply borrowed Aristotle's threadbare logic.
It fails at the first premise.

This one really is boring. Almost as boring as the people over on science and mathematics, who, at least twice a day, want to know if time travel is possible. It gets tedious keep giving the same answer over and over again, but for just one more time: God is Eternal.

1. Everything that begins to exist has cause of its existence.
2. The universe began to exist.
3. Therefore, the universe has a cause of its existence.
The universe requires a cause because it had a beginning. The designer, unlike the universe, had no beginning, so doesn't need a cause. In addition, Einstein's general relativity, which has much experimental support, shows that time is linked to matter and space. So time itself would have begun along with matter and space.
However ... God has no need to have been created, since He exists either outside time (where cause and effect do not operate) or within multiple dimensions of time (such that there is no beginning of a plane of time). Hence God is eternal, having never been created.

I'm not sure we'll ever know.
The concept probably evolved out of ancestor worship through a lot of steps but the way it actually happened isn't clear.

Logic tells us that every effect has a cause. You were caused by your parents, and they by their parents, etc. We assume that we would get back to the first human or the first animal on earth. Then we get back to what caused life on earth and so forth. Eventually we would get back to the first cause of all other things in existence. This would be an uncaused cause. This is what we call God.
What do we know about this God? Not much. Only what He has told us about Himself, and what we can deduce from logic.

god name means he causes to become, so in effect he created all things which came into existance including jesus his son, but if he caused everything into existance that means before he created his first creation jesus there was no creation, so in effect god has always existed
