HelpOnThe way, how long have you been using the machine for, and how long do you think before it takes for the splits?

They work and they improve your kicks. It'll take more time though before you get more power in those kicks.

Hi there
Never used one I'm afraid. There was a time when i first started training that i seriously considered getting one. I'm sure you will put it to good use but the simple answer is there a gimmick like all sporting goods. The thigh master and the yoga ball are others to name few.
All that's required is to get into a daily routine of doing the splits for 5 Min's everyday each time holding the stretch a little longer. Other exercises such as pushing your knees to the floor or bending down and touching your toes all help.
I have been doing the box splits since i was 24. I'm now 34 and can still do them. Some people say not all people are capable of performing them. I'm not sure if this is true but with the right exercises performed safely you should be able to achieve full box splits in a month or two.
Hope this helps
Best wishes

I used to keep a couple of them in my studio and they were nice to use when you were a little stiff or had a little bit of a pull or injury since they would support your weight while sitting and stretching. This was especially nice for the lower back and stretching that area out and students would use them before class sometimes as well. There really are exercises that can do as much or more for you than that machine so while it can help I have found that it is better to train people about stretching and how to stretch in the long run than rely on that machine. Also you should still do some warming up before you jump on it and stretch. While the increased flexibility will help your kicks some it will not improve them near as much as that plus working on your kicks and kicking combinations and using your kicks to set up your hands and hands to set up your kicks and doing some other training drills as well.

Hi i`ve been training for a long time and have been there done that with all manner of gizmos and gadgets.
Will it improve your flexibility?... yes, will it improve your kick?.. no.
To improve your kick.... KICK.. sell your stretch machine on ebay and buy a bag and kick it...
Stretching and strecthing machines is all over rated!! Im not saying dont stretch but only use it for what it is needed... you dont need to be able to do a full box split to kick someone in the head!!
Stretch after a workout to reduce lactic acid build up and to elongate the muscles dont just stretch and stretch and stretch and be fit to kiss your own *** but when your legs goes up its like getting hit with your grannys handbag!!

I used one for a month or so, but it didnt seem to help much. I did notice i was able to stretch about an inch or two more without much strain after using it. Its very slow and i think you need lots of patience.
I did hear about a guy that learned to do the splits in 2 days by wearing roller skates and trying to do the splits with them on. My instructor (4th degree black belt) told me about it, but i think you could probably do some serious damage that way.

I have an S.M.A stretching machine which is great although it takes afew months to be able to do splits. It is impportant when you use it that your muscles have already been warmed because cold stretching increases the likelyhood of injuries.Yes they do increase your flexibility but training can improve the kicks just as well.

They work to a certain extent, if you are like me tall and over 200lbs they tend to be somewhat of a flimsy construction. I achieved the same result by using a flat surface with an anchor point where you use your upper body strength to pull you. It takes time, it hurts a bit but no pain no gain!!!!
