She had her leg amputated on Weds and of course they had to stitch her up.. Well, she was doing great (bit at the stitches once) and I got an E-collar just in case, then last night she started biting again, before I could get home today to put some bitter spray around the stitches, she had one a little bit pulled, and there is some blood/gaping... Its sunday night, and not really a "vet emergency" what should I do? (i have the e-collar on, but what to do bout the stitches?)

i just called the emergency vet... they said just to keep her e collar on and maybe put something on it, like a towel. They said as long as it isnt too deep, it isnt much to worry about until tomorrow. Thanks everyone!

Don't worry about the stitches. Leave the collar on her, spray the stitches w/bitter spray, and take her to the vet as soon as they open tomorrow. They will either put another stitch in, or tell you......the inner stitches are fine, and she'll just have a little more ragged scar where this one was pulled out. Too bad you didn't have the E-collar ON her, while you were gone! Cats can still eat, drink, and use the litter pan, even with the E-collar on, so if you had it "just in case", you should have put it on and LEFT it on. "A lesson learned the hard way", huh! Good luck.................

I would not mess with the wound at all until you can take her back to the vet. Leave the collar on at ALL times until healed- even when you are home and 'watching' her. They are so sneaky. Tonight, I would even call the emergency vet and see what they think you should do...if it's open and bleeding I would probably take my kitten in right away. It shouldn't be too expensive for them to just clean it and put one more new stitch in. And if money isn't an issue- definitely take her tonight!

I'm terrible sorry about your Kitty's leg. How miserable she must be. I think her collar maybe too loose and she's getting around it somehow. Do you ave benadrill in the house in liquid for? One little drop in her mouth will make her sleepy. If you can do this every 4 hours or until she snaps out of it and get to the vet. Just one drop no more at a time. Children's benadrill is prefered.

Take her back in first thing tomorrow morning. Don't touch the incision and don't put anything on it. Keep the e-collar on and make sure she doesn't lick at it. (I would just walk in to the clinic when they first open. They won't turn you away.)
