The Golden Compass can't make anyone an atheist, just like Narnia did not make me a christian.

Apparently the Golden Compass is perceived as a threat to some large non-profit religions, their cashflow, and their membership.

The USA Supreme Court has already jettisoned the 10 Commandments of Moses, a move which is far, far worse than the Golden Compass movie.

I assume that The Dark Materials Trilogy does question traditional ideas of God and the afterlife in such a way as to make children question their own beliefs (and critical thinking=bad, obviously). Most other movies in the same vain, however, are completely irrelevant to becoming an atheist, in that there is no attack on traditional beliefs, it is merely a portrayal of something that religious fanatics find offensive (and, ironically, their opposition to it is what could drive those who enjoy the movie and resent that opposition, into atheist opposition to the religious attackers...).

Really, though...people give movies too much credit.

for sure if human beings carry to a cheished concept and it is attacked then they does no longer be vulnerable to help it. people who're asserting it is purely a action picture in all threat at the instant are not protecting stable perspectives of Christianity. If something they have been into replaced into attacked they might in all threat no longer decide to help it the two. i desperate this week that i does no longer spend funds to work out the Golden Compass. no person advised me to try this it replaced into my own determination. If yet another Christian is going to work out the action picture that's as much as her or him. i does no longer tell them they could no longer see it. i might in simple terms tell them what i comprehend approximately it. this may be a topic count for a guy or woman's very own conviction by using fact the Bible does no longer restrict a beliver from seeing video clips often. they could evaluate extra. I even have examine quite a few articles approximately it and seen the promo (the 1st 5 minutes) and that i comprehend adequate to comprehend what it is approximately. Animals are referred to as demons interior the outlet intro of the action picture. Animals that are depicted as pets or acquaintances are being handed as as a demon which might make youthful childern greater accepting of the belief of demons. If there is an prepared boycott so what? Is there no longer freedom of the click and freedom to no longer partake in a number of that press additionally? If this action picture isn't a great financially grossing photograph then it is going to convince some action picture manufacturers to no longer make those form of videos. I in simple terms desire people who boycott have their own pesonal awareness concerning the action picture in any different case they gained't seem that rational to protest something they could no longer comprehend.

Anything that provides a view contrary to that of their religion could influence children to question their beliefs. Religion is effective because the ideas are drilled into children's brains from day one. It is, in fact, a form of brainwashing. However, something children will read or watch, like The Golden Compass and Phillip Pullman's other books, that contradict those beliefs will make them think. The only reason any religions have lasted this long is because those who practice them don't think for themselves.

According to Christian propaganda, every movie these days could convert people to atheism. Does that not make anyone question why Christians would be so afraid that something as simple as a movie would draw people away from the ALL MIGHTY and his church and religion. Kind of makes Christianity appear to be a very weak religion which obviously has so many holes in it that the head of the church is afraid that the slightest wind would expose and knock down Christianity. So, they why follow something that is so obviously false or weak?

Well since school children all over America have been reading The Golden Compass as part of their summer reading program for the past ten years and I have yet to hear of one converting to atheism, I wouldn't be too concerned about it.

Then again, if they feel their child's faith is so weak that a movie could cause them to abandon it altogether, they may have a reason for concern.

Yeah, that's pretty much it.

If something makes you ponder the idea of religion that goes beyond what the Bible says it's considered dangerous. That's why The Golden Compass scares the poop out of so many parents. They realize their indoctrination is quite fragile if they allow their kids to break away from the bubble they built around them.

It can't. I don't know why these so called Christians or self-righteous people feel the need to down grade and scream and yell about movies making their children non-christian, violent, believe in magic, etc. Movies like the Golden Compass, the Harry Potter Movies, etc. are wonderful fairy tales for kids and adults to use their imaginations and be entertained. We are making a society of non-imaginative people, who have no original thoughts or ideas. It irritates me that they want to thrust their morals, ideals, etc. onto others. It is my job as a parent to decide what is proper for my child to see, not someone elses.

People become athiests because they don't know what to believe or don't what to believe what is beyond our minimal comprehension as human beings. This doesn't really answer what movies do but you keep in mind that unless it is based on a true story, it is made up and let the kids know too.
