I'm an atheist and have never had an adverse reaction from anyone if ever the issue came up. Admittedly it is extremely rare for that to happen.
I was wondering if anyone had had a bad reaction when they mentioned it.

Big time.
I was at a continuing education center doing a work development program and I happened to comment due to a converstion that I was an atheist.
That caused over a week worth of conversations... I know they would have stopped at any time if I asked, but I enjoyed them. But the anger and hate was blatent and obvious.

I don't usually mention it. One person did say that I was too nice to be an atheists. So I must be a least agnostic.

Well, saying anything unbecoming about the European Pope (such as his hiding of child crimes from the secular police) tends to bring out the religious extremists/monopolists who want European Catholicism to take over the world.

Dude where I come from, admitting to Atheism gets the same reaction as having cancer. people pity you and start praying for you in public..all kinds of stuff..

I've never had a bad one. What amazes me when the subject is broached is how many are Atheists themselves.

The worse for me was when a fellow nurse asked me how I could be a nurse and not be a christian? I am just as kind and considerate as any so called christian. If not more so!!

free thinker=enemy of theism
enemy of theism=prime evil
Alot of people automatically think of atheist as a dirty word synonymous to Satanism.
