What does 'commitment issues' mean? This is like a daytime TV show phrase.
A single 47 year old man could be thousands of different things... good, bad and everything in between.
If you think there is an issue, think to yourself why and articulate that. Otherwise no response here can have any real meaning can it?

I'm 44, never married, no kids. I'd love to be committed to a girl for the rest of my life, but they don't seem to be interested in me. I'm slim, well educated, non-smoker, non-drinker, OK looking, although not rich or successful.
I've given up on conventional dating, and am traveling to Thailand for a couple of weeks in 2008 as a sex tourist (strictly over 18s). It's a last resort I guess...

That depends on his situation. Is it because he just got out of jail? Then he may not be a good catch. If it's because he has spent the last twenty years making something of himself then that may be a good catch. You should ask yourself certain questions about him because you know him better than us.
If he has never been in a long term commitment this may definitely point out a lack of commitment. On the other hand, if he was in a long term commitment that went awry he may have just become more guarded.

Well, I am 38 - never married and no kids, the reason being that I have not found a woman who was interested in me as I was interested in her plus I've been working in a job which is time consuming etc.
Give him a chance - find out about him and see whether or not he is a good match for you.

The heart is a lonely hunter, so be careful of judging past hunts.
His issues and your issues may work together, but that starts with communication. Take your time to know him.

Could be a lot of things. Sexual dysfunction, he has gender identity issues, committment phobe, looking for Ms. Perfect, a Player, tied to Momma's apron strings, deep into a career... just never know what the real issue is until you discuss it.

I would be hesitant and certainly want to know why he'd never been married, and had he come close, and had he been in long-term relationships, and what prevented him from taking the next step. I would certainly see it as a red flag that needs investigating, but not necessarily a deal-breaker.

If you're seeing a man thats 47 and has no kids... you might want to pay attention to his personality.
Just because he hasn't shown any signs of commitment doesn't mean he doesn't want to though, perhaps he's waiting for the right time or hasn't found the right person yet.
Don't judge him by that, but on how he IS.
