I have a gap between my two front teeth, and it bothers me. I want to get it fixed and I've been considering porcelain veneers. I'm curious to know what it's like to have them, does the dentist drill your teeth, how long do they last, how many trips to the dentist it takes to get them on, how long in between trips to the dentist it is, and how they look when they're on?

Also any personal stories about getting a gap fixed are always welcomed!

Please answer this, I'm really curious about it, and would like to act fast on getting my teeth fixed. I've lived with this long enough.

Also sorry about how many questions I've asked, I just want to know about them.

I forgot o ask about price. How much would it cost to get my front teeth done?

If it's only a gap you are trying to have fixed, veneers are over the top and too expensive. Look into something called bonding, which is less expensive and looks more natural. With veneers, they actually remake a tooth for you in the shape you want, and then file down your original tooth into little pegs to attach it, so you can never get away from veneers, you just have to replace them every 10 years.

I waited a very long time to get them and looked forward to it. I didnt have a gap, just had a discoloration on my front tooth but I had all my front teeth done on the top. I was going to get the bottom done but decided not to. I dont like the fact that my original teeth are gone and I can never get them back. That kind of bothers me even if they will always have veneers over them. I didnt realize it would bother me until afterwards. I was talking weird for about a year and had to learn to talk differently because the teeth were just a tad bit farther then my original teeth from my tongue so I had a bit of a lisp until my tongue got used to the new position of the teeth. Also, its a very painful procedure (mostly the shots, I just had my wisdom teeth pulled and that was nothing compared to this, shots dont bother me in the least bit but these shots are put in your gums at the roof of your mouth near your nose so the stuff goes up into your nose and stings like hell there) . I had 2 initial appointments but the dentist messed one of them up so I had to return. He didnt put 1 on straight I guess and all kinds of stuff was getting in there (pepsi food) that was sitting in there on my unprotected teeth. That ruined the tooth underneath so then they had to give me a root canal and tryed to make me pay for the root canal and the new veneer, so I never went back to that dentist office (Its at Mccarthy Ranch in San Jose Ca for anyone reading this). 2 other dentists said that he screwed up and saw the same thing I felt, but they denied anything was wrong and made it seem like I was being picky. The most painful part of the procedure wasnt the drilling or anything, I didnt feel that but it took hours to do. The most painful part was when they grinded my teeth down and the grinded teeth were exposed to air. That was the most painful thing Ive experienced next to breaking my legs when a car hit me. It only lasted like a couple minutes but it was horrible. Your teeth have a protective enamel on them, when that enamel is gone and cold air hits it, it hits the roots of the teeth and hits them all at once. All in all I am glad I got it done but it did bother me for the longest time because I had this lisp that other people didnt notice but i noticed. Im not trying to scare you, but just letting you know about my experience with it. You will feel like frankenstein while they are working on you because its alot of work and your face will be number (and more jacked up) then it ever has from any dentist procedure. Most insurance doesnt cover cosmetic dentistry (mine werent covered) so if money is a problem, I suggest you go to Thailand to have it done. They are just as professional in Bangkok (its a big city like San Francisco or Miami) and you can have it done for 1/3 the price of in USA. Plus they will be nicer to you because Thais are the nicest people on earth.

Best thing to do is to actually ask professional dentists, not the saddos like me on here!

And remember, ask as many questions as you can, and get more than one quote for the price and service from many different dentists.

Hope you find happiness with the veneers!

KRISTINA,

WHEN I WAS A DENTAL STUDENT I HAD THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM AS YOU. I HAD 4 OPTIONS TO CLOSE MY GAPS.
1= BRACES
2=VENEERS
3=CROWNS
4=BONDING

I CHOSE BRACES
WHY?
NOTHING WAS ALTERED TO MY TEETH AT ALL AND AFTER ALL WAS SAID AND DONE I HAVE A GREAT SMILE. I NEVER HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT THINGS CHIPPING OR BREAKING OR FADING WITH AGE.
WAS ALL THE TROUBLE AND TIME WORTH IT? AFTER BECOMING A DENTIST I KNOW I MADE THE RIGHT CHOICE. CROWNS OR VENEERS DON'T LAST FOREVER, BRACES ARE FOREVER.
