I can't see why people respond to questions with cut and pasted religious quotes. Is it because they lack mental capacity to articulate their thoughts on the issue? Honestly, what good does this do?

It somehow "validates" their religion.

Some questions require more complicated answers. Short quotes are fine, and a long, personal response may be more meaningful than a brief toss-off, but big cut-and-pastes show a lack of sincerity or engagement. It's usually easy to tell the difference.

And then there are the huge lists and references that have nothing to do with the question. I assume that's mental illness.

Really long posts seem to be associated with intelligence, so it appears that the person knows what they're talking about, even if their answer has little to do with the question at hand.

Granted, I do know of some people who have long c&p answers that they use simply because a certain question often comes up, and that's okay.

Sometimes the long answers are absolutely wonderful. Most of the time they are like you say Copy & Pasted regurgitations. I can usually tell pretty quickly which is which. I just scroll past the inane C&Ps.

I do not like so long answers either. One reason could be the same questions keep coming up. Maybe if a questioner could see old questions answered, it might help.

It is annoying isn't? Plus it is plagiarism. As if they think that by copying and pasting someones content, that means that they answered the question.

I do post long posts, but trust me it is all me. 100% me.

When they aren't necessary, I don't like them. Copy and paste is worse. I don't like long questions either.

they think by posting ideas from some other website they are more credible. i think its just stupid personally, i dont read them and actually give them a thumbs down (not that it actually does anything) just because its really long.

To answer the question throughly, backing up their claims and points.
