well I'm army, but have marine friends. i think your friend is full of crap. first off,.. i don't know ANY soldier that has 600K in their bank account. grant it i saved alot of $ while in Iraq. but with my grade and years i made about 40K there. and I'm about the middle. also you can't sign up for 12 years at a time. army is 3-6 year re-enlistments.
now when it comes to the rest. far as army goes, you don't pay for your clothes or gear, unless you loose it. every year you get a clothing allowance to help buy new clothes, but they give you your initial issue free. your gear comes from CIF and is used for the most part. once you leave a duty station you must return it.
all the military gets payed the same. however some services advance faster than others, as well as some jobs. i have former marines in my army unit because they just couldn't get promoted in the marines. so they switched over. most of them say they miss the Marines.
i also know the army will guarantee your job at MEPS. but even though the marines don't, the chance of you getting what you want is still very high.
it all comes down to where YOU want to serve. both are great military branches. both have their ups and downs. don't listen to your buddy. do what you want to do. and remember if it isn't for you, then at the end of your enlistment, you can always switch over.

You've been asking questions for weeks. Use your head. The military is the military. The bottom line is Airforce sleeps in a warm bed and has a hot meal every night, the Navy is the same, the Army and Marines are ground pounders. Between the two; the Marines are by far the hardest and best trained. Marine Corps bootcamp is 4 weeks longer than any other branch of service. The Marines, in all military circles and the pentagon, are America's elite fighting force. They are first to fight, last, if ever, to leave and they win. As my friend who is a Colonel at West Point said in very simple layman terms - the Marines go in first and give everyone a bloody nose and the Army cleans up. Get your butt off the internet and get into the recruiter's office and sign up for the Marine Corps!! I offered this to you once and I will one last time. Sign up Marines and call me before you do and I can get your parents a couple of free Airline tickets to fly out and see you graduate. Call me or email me at 817.371.5120 or mk_blls@yahoo.com. Oh, the email you got? Why would you even begin to listen to someone that sounds and writes so ignorant?

Shinoko, First off, the Marines don't say you ar a killer first. They say every marine a rifleman. When you protect the weak or help liberate those who need liberating you aren't a killer, you are a warrior. Secondly, we are pulling out of Iraq however we are boosting the numbers in Afghanistan. Chances are if he is in the legal field he will do alot of what he told you. Not everyone in the combat zone is in the fight. If he is playing video games all day we are wasting tax payer dollars so I hope that they keep him actively engaged, but that would be more legal stuff and not fighting stuff. Only the planners at HQ Marine Corps know if his unit is going to deploy (if it isn't already scheduled.) Hope this helps

That is complete BS... You get a clothing allowance, and the military provides you all that you need... The only time you would have to pay for something is if you destroyed it or lose something that you are given... I'm pretty sure you do have to return all the gear that they give you excluding your uniform... You should ask your recruiter all this information... And if you still don't believe the recruiter than find an active duty marine and ask him/her yourself....
The pay is fairly shitty for the first 2-3 years... Although you do get paid more while deployed... Just make sure you save as much as you can and don't waste it on stupid stuff...

That's full of ****. 100% crap. With the exception of the initial bonuses, everything else is the same. The GI bill, which will pay for your college, applies to all branches. Same thing for tricare, the military. How this guy makes 600k amazes me. What does he do in the Army? Sell cracks? How could you sign for 12 years? I don't think that exists. Don't trust this guy, he's not your friend for lying to you.

hey,i was in the marine corps during the vietnam war, we had just as much new supplies and gear that any army division had if not more, our pay was the same. our benefits the same and yes, the army is still as mad as hell because they were forced to train with the first marine division at fort bliss before leaving and the forth marine division again after replacing the first marine division.sure the guys in the army hate the marines ,like hell, because they are sick and tired of getting their asses wumped all the time by these grass-assin-marines who love a good ole fashion bloody fistfight

I hope they are paying for his "colledge" education. He is borderline illiterate, he typed almost everything wrong. Every service is an outstanding opportunity. There are no differences in basic pay or college tuition assistance for any branch of service.
My husband's a Marine and didn't pay for a single bullet fired in Iraq.
The difference is some people want to EARN their title, others want their futures HANDED to them. Semper Fidelis and good luck.

Thats a bunch of crap. It is true that the Army pays more but that is because the government gives them more funding. and as far as getting more respect in the Army, hah, thats a bunch of crap too. The Marines have way to much pride.

Well the fact that he doesn't know that all branches use the same pay chart makes him sound like he's never actually served in the military. Pay is based on Rank/years in service. Plus the grammar and spelling are atrocious, sounds like an 8 year old wrote it.
