I'm not an expert. We have both types of tv. One thing to think about when considering a plasma....if it is near windows where sunlight could be reflected on the screen, get an LCD. You won't see the reflection. We have a window behind the couch and the plasma faces the couch. During the day you can see the reflection of the window in the TV. If we had gotten an LCD, this would not have been an issue. Plasma has an outstanding picture otherwise.

You got a good explanation about the benefits of LCD over plasma when it comes to glare or bright lighting.

Plasmas are generally cheaper, especially in larger sets. Both have equal resolution. LCDs tend to be brighter and can have more vivid colors.

I've also heard that Plasmas have a shorter life span, but they may have been limited to earlier plasmas. Apparently, the gas would eventually evaporate out of the screen somewhat, resulting in a less bright picture years down the road.
