Essential Elements 2000 Christmas Favorites. The Flute Book comes with a Flute Solo part as well as the band part if you were to play the arrangement with concert band with everyone using the books. The book includes a play-along accompainment CD. You could also try the Music Minus One Christmas CD w/ Music for Flute.

What level of playing are you looking at? That would help so that we can give you more concrete answers.

For beginning flutist, there's a Christmas song book from the Yamaha band series (I think). They work great as solos (no accompaniment), duos, or trios. I had a trio (w/me doubling on one part) of beginning flutists play one or two of the pieces out of the book for their beginning band concert. It provided just enough challenge for them as they had only been playing for a few months, yet it was an arrangement that the audience enjoyed.

Another option is a church hymnal. They just cost pennies to copy pages out of (get permission first), work really well for the flute --or at worst case, will just have to be played up an octave, and can be easily transposed into different keys at sight or minimal rehearsal if you're able to do so. You might even be able to find hymnals for free (or cheap) online.

If you decide to order your music online, I'd definitely would check out www.fluteworld.com. They are a flute music "guru" and have just about everything that you could possibly imagine. Many of the workers there are flutists themselves, so they are very knowledgeable about flute repretory and other things flutists may need.

Good luck!

attempt Bach's Brandenberg Concerto #5, the Allegro flow. Very difficult flute area. in case you're only doing this to advance your flute playing and you like greater contemporary song, there is quite a few 70's creative rock which makes use of quite a few flute: - Jethro Tull (Thick as a Brick, the full album ) - Camel (quite a few flute playing on the Snow Goose and Moonmadness) - Genesis (pre-Phil Collins with Peter Gabriel as lead singer/flautist), "Firth of 5th" "The Musical container" "Supper's waiting"
