I could list several analogies between Iraq and Vietnam. Just as I could between almost any two objects or events.

You can make a long list of analogies comparing apples to oranges......Both are round......both are fruit......both have seeds on the inside......both have juice......both have a peel........list all you want but it does not make them the same.

Where the important information is found is in the differences between Iraq and Vietnam.

The Wise One is correct. There is no comparison. The war in Vietnam was to stem the communist from taking over all of Vietnam, after almost 15 years of fighting, & constant protest from anti-war, some say communist sympathic groups, within this country, we decided to let go of Vietnam. 55 thousand dead & countless wounded later, we pulled out & left them to their fate & for some, it was a pretty bad fate. The war in Iraq is totally different in that no one asked us to come to their defense, they had done nothing to our country & as far as spreading Democracy to the middle east goes, it isn't working! However, when we leave, I hate to think of the deaths that will ensue because some have worked with us & been friendly with our troops, this will never go unpunished. The horror of Vietnam will be repeated when we leave & we will leave because we cannot afford to stay much longer. We, as a nation are broke & cannot pay our bills to those who have loaned us money. We are compelled to leave, much as our President will not admit it.

the wise one is correct,i was there in vietnam as a combat marine in 1967.running the ordr back then were ww2 and korean war vets.the name of thegame was bodycounts and big ones, nearly with no rules of engagement, because where we marines were, there were no media, because the hot metal was flying everywhere.as the way i remember it with "c" 1/9 3rd mardiv, our ww2 era senior officers lamented that conthien was a continuous iwo jima
