Mom told me not to be shaving my pubic hair. What should I do?
I was showering when my mom came into the bathroom to get something and saw me shaving my hair down there.

Later that evening she sat me down and said not to be doing that anymore. She gave some health reasons and then said she didn't think that a Christian girl had any buisness shaving that because she thinks it looks worldly and like the body of a prostitute. She said that we need to stay away from sexual sin. She said God put hair there for a reason.

I told her I am 14 and have to shower with girls who all shave and I don't want to be the only one who doesn't.

No Biblical bases for it. Maybe good for health reasons so you might take her advice as a grain of salt. Ask your mom for the verse that says you can't shave down there. Shaving isn't sexual sin. If it was, we'd all be in trouble, except the french muslims. If you want to shave, then shave. Everyone one has their own reason for shaving and not shaving. It's only a grooming issue not a sexual or worldly issue. That's purely a personal choice on your part.

I'm a Christian, and I shave. Personally, I think it's more sanitary.

But I didn't start shaving there until I was eighteen. I think it's pretty sad that all the girls you have to shower with are already shaving. Legs are one thing, but the pubic area is quite another.

Anyway, I really don't think it's anyone's business if you want to shave your pubic hair. I think you're too young, personally, but I can understand you not wanting to stick out. I can also understand where your mom is coming from. Part of me wants to tell you to obey her, but another part really thinks it's no one's business what you do or do not shave.

It sounds like a generational thing. Welcome to the parent-child generation gap, lol. Your mom's generation probably does NOT shave there, so she can't understand why women would.

If I were you, I'd write out a letter naming all the reasons you want to be able to shave there (it's more hygienic, more comfortable, et cetera)...but try not to include the "everyone else is doing it" excuse. You know what parents say to that, right? "Well, if 'everyone' was jumping off a cliff, would you jump too?" When you're done, give it to your mom. You should also assure her it has nothing to do with sex, at least in your case, because you're too smart to have sex at your age.

I hope this helps.

I would of thought you were a little bit young for this, but then kids these days are growing up so fast. In my experience pretty well everything in the christian bible is sinful - homosexuality, free thought, sex before marriage, etc, etc. So probably, if God was real, he would not smile on young girls doing this. However I am probably not the best person to answer this because I am an atheist, and I believe goodness should come from our hearts, not from fear of eternal damnation. I believe we should be our own Gods and choose a path that is right for us. Try depilatory cream, it is more comfortable than shaving.

well, i can honestly say that i have never come across anything in the bible saying a women or man can't shave his private area.

if she is saying this for relegious reasons, she needs to back it up with scripture. and you may also ask her why she shaves/waxes her lip hair? i mean, after all, god put it there for a reason. or why she shaves her legs? and whatever she says about that, you just repeat the same thing back to her.

with all the things a person should be concerned about doing, shaving isn't one of them.

This is one of those areas that is not specifically mentioned in the Bible. While it should be between you & God, by allowing your Mom to see you nude, she has become a part of the mix.

Had she never known, you would be free to do what you want, but now, if you disobey her, you would be dishonoring your Mother, in defiance of the commandment to honor your Mother & Father.

In and of itself, shaving your pubic hair is not sinful. But now to do so would be, because she has stated what she wants for you.

I'm sorry but your mom is kookoo. It has nothing to do with sin or looking like a prostitute.

In biblical times every man had to have a beard, does that mean that today we are all sinners or going against god's wishes?

I don't think so. Think for yourself. It's your body.

you are right on your mom is wrong. your mom is an old fashion lady, and back in her day they didnt really shave. you see, your mom sees it this way, if your shaving your vagina she thinks you are having sex, and thats a sin. anyways now and days all the girls shave and those that dont are displayed as the nasty ones. its more of a higene thing.
