Flip a coin. That's about the best answer you're going to get, unless you want to go with proof, and facts, and other nasty little things.

First we have to see humanity as a whole, including its entire history.
If you compare the phases of a child's growth, to that of the entire human race, certain mile stones of growth (emotionally) can be noted.
The one underlying power, urge or any other type of motivation is... fear. The fear of the unknown. Stories are created, reinforced, denied, abolished and reformed every day. Communal acceptance through "media" (accepted truths by those who hold control over others) create these truths to best fit their desires (fears).
So to answer your question with a question, does either proposed theory contain more grains of truth than the other? If you say science is based on facts, then I'll remind you that only a few hundred years ago, the Earth was flat and it was the center of the known universe.
The only answer you can find, is the answer you find in yourself. I warn you, you will have to face your most basic subconscious fears and let go of all assumed knowledge. You can see for yourself, unfortunately you can't have the answer "given" to you. You have to earn the perspective of truth.
Keep asking yourself, "What is the truth behind our origin?". You'll be surprised when you find the answer staring you in the face.

Well, I think you summed it up pretty well; Adam and Eve were just a story.
Back in the ancient days, it was acceptable to make up a story for something that you were unable to understand. This is called theology and is defined as making a natural phenomenon supernatural or etherical. e.g. the volcano errupted because I opened my umbrella indoors.
Evolution on the other hand is a viable and practical theory which has been proven many times over.
You choose what you want to believe in, that is completely up to you, but understand the difference between an answer and an explaination, then make your decission.

Well the facts and evidence point to evolution and that we and apes shared a common ancestor. As of yet there is no evidence that would support Adam and Eve. Not only is the creation story's order wrong, but the time recorded by the bible to current time does not match the evidence.
While a person can believe what ever they wish, this does not change the facts.
Edit:
If you are really interested, try finding out how many fossils have been dug up. Find out how many transitional fossils have been identified. Examine the consistency of the fossil versus strata dating i.e. do we find fossils that have been dated as recent in very early strata? (hint the answer is no, the fossil and geological column are consistent). Then there is the genetic side of the house and virual markers that confirm common ancestory. Geology also confirms that the world is around 4.5 billion years old.

I know what you mean. I was raised in a christian home, but taught evolution. Of course, I was super confused. lol Then I heard Creationist Carl Baugh speaking on TV one day. I had no idea that Evolution was not fact or that there was any evidence to prove otherwise. If you're serious and really want to know, you should check it out and read some of his books (there are others that you can check out, too). Then decide for yourself.

Sit back and relax!
Adam was created in God's own image... MALE! God expected Adam to mate with some of the animals that he created. They both looked hard one by one. They had plenty of time to do it while Adam was naming ALL the animals that God created. Adam must have tried a sheep or what have you, but no suitable "help meet" or mate was found for Adam. So AFTER God created man unto his own image God admits a glitch in his creation that something is "no good" about creating the man alone! So he creates Eve as an afterthought! This is the honest Bible truth.
God Admits twice in Genesis 2:18 and 2:20 that "it is no good for man to be alone" so after Adam names ALL the animals that God created. They both verified that they couldn't find a suitable mate for Adam so God created Eve...!!! (Genesis 2:20) She was created who knows how long after the original creation of Adam in God's own image. We really don't know how long it took Adam to name the animals and try them for a mate. By the time Eve was created Adam knew A LOT about sex! So when Eve was presented to Adam he was not really a nerd! This is the Bible truth!
It is a nice story, but there is no scientific evidence that it actually happened the way it is written in the Bible!

Why can't they both be true, in different ways?
Don't get me wrong -- I'm not saying that what your pastor preaches is the same kind of truth that your professor teaches. But the essential lesson of the Garden of Eden story -- namely, that a state of blissful ignorance is no way for human beings to live and even if it were offered to us, we would surely find a way to escape at the first opportunity -- is a lesson worth learning. Call it psychological truth, or emotional truth, if you like. Just because we don't yet understand the why of it, that doesn't mean it's untrue.
And yes, evolution really happened, and continues to happen, and it's absolutely marvellous. If you're in college or headed there, please sign up for at least one basic biology course. You'll never regret it.
Enjoy.

Creation shows we began perfect and separate from other life forms. We have grown down from perfection to where we are now. We have the Bible record of honesty and also fossil and scientific record on its side. No one has found any "missing link" fossils. It explains why we have descended into so much trouble.
Evolution points to the glorification of man and the absence of God, which is its entire purpose. Man comes from lower life forms after the purest of accidents which they have never managed to do on purpose in any lab. Thus today's man is the height of life forms. "Cavemen" is better (higher) than Shakespeare???? After all a higher generation of men made it.
