Your best bet would be outside of the actual medical context (unless the hospital has opportunities to actually volunteer on a pediatric unit - most hospitals don't give volunteers much to do). Programs like Ronald McDonald House or other pediatric programs for youth dealing with long-term illness or even disability (there are often camps and related programs). Youth programs in general are great to volunteer with (Big brother/sister - boys and girls clubs, etc.) Always need volunteers.

Research some organizations that you would be interested in volunteering with. Typically, any social service organization would jump at the chance to have a motivated volunteer join the team. So get your resume updated, send it with a professional letter and mail it off to the lucky agency that is waiting for someone like you.
I work in social services, and people like you are very rare. Do you live in Minnesota? :)

Big Sisters Program sounds like a winner for you, also any childrens hospitals in your area, or any hospitals for that matter would be glad to have a motivated volunteer. Schools for the deaf and blind can use good volunteers, I am sure you will find something, good luck and God Bless YOU!!!

Yeah be arranged for low pay, puzzling artwork, human beings neglecting individuals, and lots of unhappy situations. Social artwork isn't an ordinary activity! ensure you're arranged to take on the tense situations of being a social worker.
