As soon as your pup completes his shots, take him to the groomer. Even if he doesn't need a haircut yet. Ask the groomer to cut his nails, maybe give him a bath and brush him. In other words simulate what he will be experiencing at the groomer when he does get a haircut. Take the pup about every 4 to 6 weeks to the groomer for "the works". Brush your pup daily. If you can occasionally when the pup is not due to go to the groomer stop in just to say "hi" so that the pups gets use to the person and who he/she is. Petsmart doesn't have the best prices on grooming, after the puppy special the prices are high. The other problem with going some place like Petsmart is you are not assured of getting the same groomer every time. You will probably not see the same person twice. When I started taking my pup to a private groomer and she saw the same man all the time she behaved a lot better.

I took mine to the groomers about 4 months the first time. but at home, I brush him every other day and started the day I brought him home. Petsmart has a $15 special for puppies up to 5 months old.

The earlier teh better more for training and getting use to being groomed.
In the meantime tryto train her to stand still and have her nails touched.

As soon as possible. Honestly, I left it far too late with my Bichon, until he needed it as the patronising person below said, and now he hates it, he freaks and I have to leave him with them all day. I;m sure they hate him too! sooner the better, get his used to it, he'll have to do this for life.
