I heard rumor of something you can plug into your tv so that it can receive and display 1080p resolution. (For a Sony 40" 720p LCD) After searching for a bit, I couldn't find anything. Is there anything of the sort in production? Thanks

There are upscalers BUT, it is impossible to improve the resolution of your screen beyond what the screen supports. TVs that come preHD capable have the extra pixels to support HD there is nothing in the world that can add pixel depth, its simply a hardware issue. technically upscaling is a joke also because it is impossible to improve upon a pre-recorded source video.

No. There isn't any converter or cable that can convert your 720p TV into a 1080p TV. The 720p resolution is built into the LCD panel, it means that there are physically only 720 lines of pixels in the flat panel.

However your TV can tune in and display 1080p signals. Your TV just down converts (throws away) the the extra picture information and sends a 720p version of the signal to the LCD display.

Your 720p LCD can already receive and display 1080i signals. It simply downconverts them and shows that at 720 resolution.

There is no broadcast 1080p, so it's a non-issue as far as downconverting it. If you get an HD DVD player like blu-ray, it will display at 720p also, even though it's capable of 1080p.

There is no way to take a 720p TV and make it dispay in 1080p. The screen resolution is fixed hardware and cannot be changed.

maximum HDTV isn't even sending out in 720p no longer to point out 1080p. Your fortunate no remember if that's broadcasting HD in 480p. the sole arenas which you will see 1080p being utilized is in BLUray or HDDVD and the Xbox 360 and PS3. The networks and each little thing are merely able to sending the sign for 1080p yet even 720p is at the back of time table it grow to be think to be getting into 05 yet continues to be on the backburner.
