I read this concept of creation a few years ago. I am not sure if there is truth to this and to be believed, but it was another aspect on the creation account that is interesting.

According to Gen 2:2 we are now in God's rest day which is the 7th day. So far according to bible chronology and approximately since the age of Adams creation we are approaching the six thousandth year mark. If we are to assume that each creative day is 7,000 years long (7x6=42)and then add 6,000 years into God's day of rest, it would bring us to 48,000 years since the beginning of the 1st creative day. How long the actual planet was in the making before, "In the beginning" was recorded, no one knows. It could have taken an unlimited amount of time of thousands of years.
Jesus spoke of a greater Sabbath when he would be the "Lord of the Sabbath" the period which would correspond with his 1,000 year reign which will follow this 6,000 year mark. At the end of this 1,000 year period of rulership by Christ it would bring us at the end of 49,000 years and bring us into a 50,000 Jubilee year.
Worth noting, the Jewish nation did celebrate a grand Jubilee every 5O years.

Regardless, is it that important to put a date on mankind's or even earths beginning. It is what has been happening in recorded history since then up to the present day which is of concern. The earth is in a sore state of affairs and far removed since the time our Creator said in Gen 1:31 "It was very good" that something has to be done about it real soon.

The creation stories (there are two, written several centuries apart - divide at Gen 1:4) represent the ancient authors perception of God's relationship with humanity. Each person has to come to an understanding of how God realtes to them.

These stories were not written as a literal account of creation.

Man has been on earth only a little more than 6,000 years, according to Bible chronology. However, the creative days are more than 1 literal day, or even more than 1,000 years each. The Bible also refers to a day as being a time PERIOD. For example, the Bible speaks of Noah's day. You even hear it today...in my parent's day, or my grandparents day. I hear people say all the time..."in my day..."

Time is irrelevant, one year on Earth would be less than a second, in the after life.
Too complicated to explain in brief few words, so buy my book.

there are those that do promote 1 day = 1,000 years...

that would mean the earth is roughly 12,007 years old
by that standard...TOPs...

i however estimate it to be a little over 6007 years old...

Wow. Uh... ahem, ok. In Hebrew, when the word first, second, or third... are in front of the word day, it means a literal 24-hour period.

It only took 6 24 hour days to create everything.

Well the reason is because the bible is completely wrong and no amount of fiddling with the meaning of the words in it can make it anything other than wrong.
