there are 3 different views on how old the earth is, held by 3 different groups of people. No one can prove which one is right. But I will try to lay it out for you so you can see all 3 arguements.
The first one is the scientists. They claim the earth is 5 billion years old, give or take a few. They point out the fossil record and carbon dating can tell us for sure about how long things have been around.

There is a second group of people, and this group is relitivally small, but I fall into this group personally.
This group says that the scriptures that say god created the earth in 7 days. And we read in The scriptures of the church of jesus christ of latter day saints in the docterine and covantents, where it says that gods time is 1 day to god is 1000 years to man. So if god created the earth in 6 days gods time, and rested on the 7th, and the 7th day is the time adam and eve spent in the garden of eden. that that was 7000 years, and when the fall happened, it's been about 6000 years since the time adam and eve were tossed out of the garden so the earth would be about 13000 years old.
and that's just the amount of time since the creation started, and different things were created at different times but the creation began in general 13000 years ago. And to explain the carbon dating idea, it is not inconceavable that god took other items from other places and used them as part of the earth. We learn from Modern science, that matter exisists, and cannot be destroyed, just changed, and used in different ways. So when carbon dating takes place, a piece of rock could be 5 billion years old, but only part of the earth for the 13000 that the earth has been around.

there is a 3rd group, This group claims that the bible was quite literal when it said 7 days for the creation of the earth, it means 7 days as mankind knows it. If this group is correct
the earth would be just a little more than 6000 years old.

You will have to decide for yourself, but those are the 3 schools of thought out there when you talk about how old the earth is.
As I said earlier, I am a believer in the second option.
I think the earth is about 13000 years old, and that the carbon dating that talks about the earth being billions of years old can still be right at the same time.

Hope that helps

It seems to be about four and a half billion years old, give or take a few hundred million, and assuming that the Earth is the same age as the rest of the solar system.
