The Church's system, being too institutionalized and politicized, is too slow in responding to the spiritual needs of a globalized community of faithful; such condition is sadly blocking the Spirit from leading her properly in this new millennium.

The biggest threat to the church today is right-wing, fundamentalist, irrational Christians destroying the credibility of the church with their intolerance, racism, and extreme prejudice against anything or anyone that is different than they are. The ignorance and stereotyping of the answers above this confirms this fact to some extent. If not for fundies, public non-Christian perceptions of religion would likely be a lot more positive.

I do not frequent 'other faiths' normally in my life so far; so I will restrict my comment(s) to Christianity.
Satan deceit has invaded in the USA the 'church' (loosely speaking for now), going from outside to inside). The scriptural old testament(synonym 2 Cor. 3:13-14 KJV) is the law of Moses, not Genesis-Malachi. (amongst many deviations I currently know of).

The threat to all religion is pretty much the same;
Fundies...
Islam is the "bad boy" in the spotlight today...
However Catholicism, Judaism, and many others have had their turn.
I don't think the "Church of the wisdom of man" will rest until all religions that are not verifiable by the scientific process are quashed. Their present false soapbox is global warming and universal healthcare, but they will seek to "rescue" every child from the "unprovable" precepts of religion. All justified by the Zealots in the middle east and in every fundie church.

The threat to the church (organized religion) within these times is "The Truth"!
"The Truth shall set man free."

The biggest threat is within. The problem occurs at the pulpit. It is GOD's truth mixed with man's traditions and philosophies.
GOD bless

It comes from inside the church, the members can be very destructive and hurtful to other people. Some churches are afraid to grow, so they run people off.

There is no threat to the church. God deals with people on an individual basis. The threat is to each individual in what they choose to believe.
Either they believe the lies of satan (ie there is no god. evolution is how everything came to be. god is dead. Jesus was just a man. etc)
OR they believe Jesus Christ, born of a virgin, died on the cross to save us from our sin, rose the third day to conquer death for us, ascended to heaven to prepare a place for us, and is coming back to get all who believe this and go with Him when He returns.

I believe it's the evil church leaders, that is, the pastors and ministers who deliberately lie and fleece their flock, especially the poor and elderly members of their flock.

The biggest threat to the Church is knowledge. Another question would be "Why is knowledge a threat to the church?" Think on it.
