I don't. When I see a well-researched, well-written, historically accurate answer which also contains statements that I don't happen to agree with, I just leave it alone - neither thumbs-up nor thumbs-down.

So like if I mentioned that several 'missing links' that are still taught in text books have been discovered to be wrong I shouldn't be given a thumbs down? Or mentioning the several other faults and flaws with the evolution issue I shouldn't be discredited for it, especially when I list my arguments for it with logical reasoning? I agree, if I make a very stupid statement with no basis whatsoever I should be thumbs-downed (with explanation as to where I went wrong aslo) instead of merely being insulted, saying I need to learn science because I don't even know what I'm talking about. In other words, they're smart, I'm dumb, how dare I question science/evolution?

I think I must be one of the very rare persons who when I come upon what seems to be an eloquent and academically and historically accurate answer--even if I didn't "believe" in it or know about it before, I give it a thumbs up and then go look it up myself. If I can confirm the information, I change my mind about whatever my previous idea was and consider that I've learned something new. I originally thought this was the premise of Yahoo Answers--but it really is only for people to post knee jerk opinions and get validation for whatever is most comforting for themselves to believe regardless of educated thought--especially in the R&S section.

I don't thumbs down unless the answer is insulting or just downright stupid (and not in a fun kind of way... but the ignorant, arrogant kind of stupid).
Maybe those who do that don't know how accurate the answer really is? I've noticed a lot of people don't know a damn thing about history in here.

No, I don't give thumbs down for something that is historically accurate. I've have had it done to me a few times though.

I tell you the truth, I never give thumbs down to anybody even if they answer my questions rudely, I feel it brings down your freedom of expression. I only give thumbs down rarely for people who are being nasty in their answers and purposely attacking others personalities and trying to harm.

I alwas think it strange when get a thumbs down after answering a well researched question. Then I get a thumbs up when I answer a question foolishly.

Not me. In fact, one of my pet peeves is when a person defending a doctrine repeatedly gives a link to a site that is sponsored by the religion they are defending. Give me a historical site to back your doctrine. What you describe would cause me to want to dig a little deeper, and research further yet.

I stopped giving thumbs down. It seems it's used more for condemning an answer that comes from a particular group rather than judging the merit of the answer. ( I got thumbs down once for saying I didn't care for egg custard.) So I just don't do it anymore.
Edit--see, thumbs down for saying I don't thumbs down! Or is it the egg custard thing again?
