I now hesitate to use power tools and the lawn mower.
I don't know how to answer the Super Market cashier when they ask..."Paper or Plastic?" Either one spells environmental negligence.
I need my automobile for getting to and from work, but limit long trips.
I have energy efficient devices in my home.
Yet, everyone around me goes about doing the same old, same old...and time might be running out.
To those of you who still believe earth is just fine and dandy...do me a favor, don't bother answering.
All the gadgets and inventions from the past century are coming back to haunt us now with 6.4 billion people ignoring all the signs that something ain't quite right.
Go ahead, bombard me now. (Please...spirited discussion and hopefully it gets to the morons in command).

What will happen is as oil gallops above and beyond $100.00 a barrel, everyone will have no choice but to cut back.
The free markets will dictate which way we go on this.

Some fine people answered while I slept. You made it tough on me to figure who deserves ten points.
Of course, an occasional moron or two...can't help that.
I want to thank those of you who wrote so plainly and understandably here.
I appreciate sharing a world with gifted people who are aware of what we face, and can write understandably in a public forum like this.
Thank you. Thank you. From the bottom of my heart. Thank you!

Not many seem to care. Governments are the worst. Attitude is as always let the next generations deal with it.

I am certainly worried, not only because of global warming but also because of resource depletion. Of course burning the world's resources (such as oil, gas and coal) is the cause of pollution and global warming and the risk is that we will experience the social and economic consequences of global warming and shortages simultaneously if we don't put the brakes on quickly. Sadly we are presently accelerating towards the brick wall rather than braking.
But I am glad you have made a start because it is not yet too late and I am hopeful we can get the politicians to act too. It seems to me that the politicians already know the truth but are afraid to act on it. That is why they appointed the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change to tell us the facts and what to do about them. If we ignore the cynics, like Dr Jello, and show by our individual actions that we understand what needs doing the politicians will believe there are votes to be had by adopting sensible policies instead of unsustainable economic growth.
What can we do individually? Transport is a big issue. We need to walk and pedal more and use public transport instead of cars. Flying should be very rare (there is no need for foreign holidays). We need to wear appropriate clothes so that heating and air conditioning can be turned down. But most of all we need to stop buying stuff. Reduce demand, re-use what can be repaired and recycle what can not. This sort of simpler lifestyle costs less and so reduces the pressure to earn more money. I found this myself when I sold my car nearly 40 years ago and suddenly found my money worries were over. And the way in which walking, cycling and eating sensibly have kept me fit has meant I have more fun than other people. I can dance twice as long as most people half my age and by demonstrating this I am helping to convince others that the simple life is far more fun than trying to keep up with what the neighbours spend. And a simple life will mean that our children and grandchildren will be able to enjoy a better, cleaner, more peaceful world.

I'm not getting paranoid over it. I will be dead by the time the world is in dire straits. However your children will be here. I was in Tennessee last year in May. Everyone was gasping for air. All my kids with me (from school) got sick and lost their voices. One of the locals said it was because they were in a valley and all the pollution gathered there and that almost everyone there suffered from breathing problems. And we were there only 5 days and everyone came back sick.
Within 3 days being home it all cleared up. I thought pollution was bad here but it's nothing compared to what is south of the border.
For the millions of years this planet has existed NEVER in history was there POLLUTION created by man like there has been in the last century.
Global warming has to do with POLLUTION, not with the earth freezing and melting and freezing and melting.
Get educated people before talking. I'm sick of dummies speaking who know absolutely nothing (my guess is they have never read a damn thing on the subject) and yet think they know it all.
Oh yeah, and at this event with over 30,000 in attendance, not one single bottle, can or piece of paper was re-cycled. There was no such THING down there!
Talk about living in the dark ages.

The earth is fine and dandy. You are still driving your car(using the same excuse everybody else uses). For work instead of taking public transit. You did not say you got an economical car, that you don't go shopping on Friday nights for useless goods and the like. Cutting down is all you can do(reduce, reuse, recycle) helps. Insulation in your home helps. Not buying water in bottles helps.

yes, its not fair that every one is ignoring the signs and worrying about other things no one seems to notice that if the planet isn't doing well neither are we. people should be more concerned with the planet and focus on reducing pollution and other things that are harming the earth.

there is an increase in pollution but there's really no way to stop it now and there's really no evidence that if there's no pollution that the earth wouldn't be warming up..maybe that's just what the earth has to do? i think we should live life but still be self conscious of what were doing to make small changes.

Let me guess - I'll bet you're a democrat. They tend to be followers, not people with independent thought.
At your present pace, you should be afraid to leave the home sometime next month. Maybe you should seek professional help.
