I personally think after all my years of experience, that many people who claim they have God or know God or are religious, are using it as a crutch and are hypocrites, or unhappy people who are using the whole God thing in all the wrong ways and turn out to be the most ungodly or hateful of them all.

I mean how many people carry crucifixes or wear them, who are serial killers and gang bangers?

How many total godless souls enter churches and basically look like they're mocking God.

How many families, how many kids, think of God as nothing more than a Santa Claus type of figure?

I personally think that unfortunately, not even people who are religious or of "god" can be nice.

It all varies.

Ever wonder why the truly successful and happy in life don't go around throwing bibles in people's faces or boasting about their "godliness"?

THey have something called common sense.

And, they keep the relationship to themselves or those who will hear.

The loud ones = ****

I mean it varies. Atheists and agnostics can be both good people and bad and lukewarm, just like christians/catholics/jews/hindus/buddhists, etc can be good pepole and bad.

The list goes on.

However what pisses me off is, I always thought that someone was a better or more elightened person because they had God or Religion, but what I found out the hard way was that many of them have an "us vs them" mentallity that's no different from discrimination, and if you'r not one of them they look at you with disapproval.

How's that godly?

Islamics fall under this category as well.

How can you justify killing and disqualifying people and countries just because they don't agree with you?

It's called the human condition. Atheists are certainly not the exception.

Interesting ... Its like so many of the people responding to this diatribe think religious tolerance does not applies to Christians! It's like you assert that the crimes and failings of some Christians (acting inconsistently with the teachings of Christ at that!) disproves the whole edifice of Christianity but that the crimes and failings of some atheists (acting consistently with the fact that atheism can provide no basis for objective morality!) should on no account be held against the philosophy of atheism. Atheism, the philosophy, basically says that there are no absolute categories of good and evil, that all morals are merely personal, social and evolutionary constructs but then you can still describe Christians and Christianity as absolutely immoral, repugnant and evil and a danger to humanity and not feel even a twinge of hypocrisy at the monumental illogic of your position!

While many Christians have behaved badly, sometimes really badly, Christ specializes in turning sinners around. What other faith can boast of a Chuck Colson? A John Newton? A William Wilberforce? Then there are the innumerable soup kitchens, universities, hospitals, and orphanages founded to the glory of Christ. Also personally as a forgiven sinner, I testify to an imperfect yet growing sense of God's peace, presence, and provision since receiving Christ more than a quarter-century ago. Despite occasional setbacks, my faith has deepened and strengthened, whatever life brings.

I think most people have a misunderstanding of their own religion and try to change others because they think what they believe in is wrong. They think they are better are more knowledgeable then others. It's really very sad when someone has so much hate in their heart, yet is in a religion full of peaceful messages.

Because they believe in a God that has done some pretty nasty things,

He is jealous, strict, and has a wrath you never want to mess with.

Apples never fall far from the trees.

Well there are some pretty nasty atheists on Y!A as well. Nasty is just nasty, it doesn't matter if they are an atheist or a theists. Some people just feel compelled to be nasty, as if it is their duty.

Lets just hope it doesn't spread out into the real world.

Edit:

Um excuse me:

That's because they feel that they are right about everything because they know god when it's not true. I'm glad my religious step dad isn't like that. He accepts all, because he used God so he wouldn't do drugs.

Have you read their play book? That pretty much explains everything about why they are the way they are. They worship mythological deities that are ugly and hateful in and of themselves, and buy into a divisive, arrogant philosophy that should have gone out with the Bronze Age.

When they accept JESUS as their LORD and SAVIOR, they are attacked and harrassed MORE by the Devil. These attacks are seen through their behavior.

twice-fold the children of hell... they're privy to God, but they know Him not... and that makes them kinda dangerous.
