On a AC-130 it is a chain process.
There are weapons officers that track the targets and aim the weapons.
There are aerial gunners that load, maintain, and make sure they are safe to fire.
All positions have to press a button to signal that they are ready to fire.
The pilot positions the aircraft as needed or directed by weapons officers. He will be looking at the target through a side looking HUD.
When all positions and weapons are ready. It is the pilot that actually pulls the "Trigger" to fire any or all weapons.
It sounds like a long process, but it may only take a few seconds, or less, to happen.

We don't have MOS in the Air Force, it is an AFSC (Air Force Specialty Code). They are called Aerial Gunners and no they are not officers.
