OK, so my fiance' is in the navy. He's graduating from boot camp in a couple of weeks. He'll be home for christmas, but not very long. We want to get married next summer while he's in a-school, which will last a year. Will he be able to take leave during it? We would only need about a week and a half.

The thing is, he'll be in A+school for a year...

We won't be able to get married until March being the earliest. If we go to the courthouse and get married then, would we still be able to get housing?

There are 2 options since leave is not granted under normal circumstances except during the holidays while in A School.

1- Get married while he is home for the holidays this year. You could start recieving benefits earlier. Since his school is longer than 22 weeks the Navy would have to provide you with family housing if you arrived at his training location, they would not fund the move though. Also if you are married prior to his orders assignment to his first duty station you would be factored in and if he is not going to a strictly unaccompanied billet you would be on the orders so the move to where he would be stationed would be funded. If you are not on the orders it comes out of your pockets and the navy will not reimburse you as you were not married when the orders were cut.

2- Wait it out and get married in route to his first duty station. Benefits take longer to kick in and the move to the next duty station comes out of pocket period.

Good luck

Normally unless an emergency you can't take leave while in school. I would suggest you wait till he finishes and then he will be allowed some leave.

Even a year you can't afford to miss school nor will they let you unless it is an emergency. If you all can't wait then do a quick court house wedding and then do the actual big wedding when he is done with school.
Or wait till he has a 4 day during school.
Plus right out of basic he doesn't have many leave days saved.

The military doesn't care where you get married. Once married yes you can apply for housing. Usually there is a waiting list.

Your best bet, is to have a civil cermony while he is in A school.

IE: a quicky marriage by a justice of the peace.

That makes you legally married and he can do the paper work
in the Navy to get BAH started.

It will also get you an ID card and insurance.

It will also make sure you are on his orders after A School going to his first duty station.

Then when he gets leave after A School.

You can have your regular wedding, the way you planned.

You do not get leave during A School, except of X-mas or in an emergency.

Leave is NOT authorized during A school other than scheduled breaks( typically during the two weeks between Christmas and New Years. he will NOT be allowed to take leave in the middle of school.

What lisa said. You are not allowed leave while in training except for family emergencies. You will either have to go to him and get married on the weekend with command approval, or wait for his pcs leave after his training is finished.
