i would like to go to New York city this coming holiday. i was thinking of staying at a hotel near woodbudy commons outlet mall for a few days then go back down to new york city for a few days before heading back to canada.
i was wondering if i wanted to head to go there by plane, would i be going to New York Laguardia airport then take a cab to a hotel near central valley? or is there another airport closer to there than that one? how far away is central valley from new york city anyways? AND does anyone know any good hotels within walking distance to the outlet mall?
any info would be greatly appreciated!
thank you!

A cab from Laguardia is going to cost you more than your plane ticket, I'm sure. Central Valley is about 60 miles north of NYC. The nearest airport is Stewart (airport code is SWF) in Newburgh - about 15 miles away - which is currently undergoing an expansion. You will probably need to get connecting flights, but some of the airlines that currently service Stewart are Northwest, Delta, US Airways, and JetBlue. The next closest airport is White Plains (HPN) which is about (guessinating!) 30 miles away. But, you might have more of a flight selection there. Again, it's going to be too far to take a cab affordably - but there are car services available into Central Valley. (From Stewart, I highly recommend Visconti Limosines.) You can then take a bus or train into NYC. There's commuter buses that run all day and the Harriman train station goes into Hoboken, NJ, and you can get the PATH train right into the city.

As far as hotels near the commons. I personally can't recommend any of them. There's an America's Best Value Inn, but it looks kinda gross. There's also another locally owned motel about 1/2 mile north of the Commons, but again, I can't vouch for it. I would recommend staying either in Newburgh - near the airport there's several reputable hotels, or the Holiday Inn Express at West Point - about ten miles away. If you can rent a car for those couple of days, it would make your life easier.

Otherwise, I'd recommend staying in or near the city, and doing one of the tours up to the commons - they have bus tours pretty much daily.

Based on the two answers above, you'd be better off driving down here. It may take you about 8-9 hours but there would be less aggravation for you since you would have your car, can get to a nice hotel in not-too-far Newburgh and the fact that public transportation within Orange County (where Woodbury Commons is located) is next to nil.

Just hop onto the Gardiner/QEW, cross the border and stay on the New York State Thruway for quite a while until you reach exit 16 (Rt. 17 - Harriman). The first exit after the toll booth will get you to Woodbury Commons.

And adding on to getting to Newark...you STILL have a ways to get up to Woodbury Commons. But in that sense you are better off staying somewhere in New York City.

I've also happened to run across this link below...Metro-North Railroad (similar to GO Transit where you are) does have a package to Woodbury Commons from the Harriman station. They also offer a coupon book to some of the outlet stores as well. You can get the train at either Penn Station in Manhattan or if you are staying in NJ, at Secaucus Junction (exit 15X off the New Jersey Turnpike - Eastern Spur)

Woodbury Commons is going under a huge construction making hard to navigate and distances between courts seem to be farther and it used to be, You might need to bring your tracking suit for a full day shopping.,,, and You are right my cousin who drives a yellow cab goes by a blue rate book and according to that book it costs $345.00, no kidding!!!!!! the Hampton inn is your best option
