Do you have a house or an apartment? If you live in a building with other tenants, it might be coming from them. If you have a house, you simply have to have it professionally exterminated then keep frontline on the dogs. If you just keep the Frontline on them all the time, you won't get fleas again.

As has already been stated a couple of times, at least; Call a professional Pest Controller. Local council may well provide a free service. Otherwise, try to get reccomendations on a local 'one man band'.

The cost of a Flea Treatment is extremely reasonable. It'll cost ye less than working ye way through the 'B&Q Specials' and stress. Chap will turn up. Give ye a pep talk and ask ye to go for a beer or something for a couple of hours, then methodically spray ye property with a residual, water based flea killer which the general public have no access to.

Frontline? I've never used it myself. I find feeding raw flesh and bones keeps my Dogs all but flea free. I don't know how come this is, but it is. Flea collar would take care of any odd ones picked up in passing.

One more thing I didn't notice mentioned above; Please go to an on line company such as vet-medic and get that Dog some Drontal+. It'll likely have worms.

Now, please just get 'The Man' in and have a very relaxed and merry xmass, quite free from fleas and that obvious, attendant stress ;-)

Oh; And remember: Even nice people get pests.

I'm afraid it is entirely possible they were in your carpets all this time. If you hadn't got a spray that's effective against flea eggs (some claim to be but aren't) then they can lay dormant there for as long as they need to - and of course switching on the heating will have stimulated them to hatch.

Have you been treating all your animals, regularly with Frontline? Very necessary. If they fell behind on treatments then it's entirely possible for the fleas to swoop back in. Get some more Frontline, and review your choice of house spray - nothing from a pet store!!

The lifecycle of the flea involves 4 stages .
1.The adult flea
2. Eggs
3. Larval stage
4.Cocoon

Insecticide spray for the environment will kill everthing except the cocoon stage . These can stay dormant for 2 years in floor boards/carpets. Once the temperature increases and there's presence of human /animal activities , they'll hatch and have a good feed to continue the cycle.

You will need to encourge all of them to hatch by keeping the heating on and spray the environment every 3-4 weeks . Eventually you will win .

Ok first, you need to take your dog and have him dipped, to completly rid of fleas. WHILE, your doing this have a professional come by a treat your house with fleas. Dont take the dog back in until you're sure they're are no more fleas. Also get your yard sprayed as well, this may be the source of the problem. Keep flea reppelent spray in your house and yard!

Before decorating the house for Christmas, call a professional to spray the whole house if you can afford to. If not, get some raid max foggers and set them off. Get your family and pets out of the house for at least 3 to 4 hours. While out of the house, get the pets treated and put a flea collar on them. Frontline doesn't always work. It didn't work for me. I bought a cheap flea collar and fogged my house which equals to no more fleas. You're only paying for a name when you purchase name brand products, cheaper products work just as good or better.

I'm in the same boat as you, the fleas are back in our house too.
But what makes it worse is that my 7 year old cat has bad reaction to fleas and it makes her all scabby. So I really have to get rid of them.

At my old house we used flea bombs / foggers in every room - it didnt say that on bottle but we did and it got rid of them. I found also just spraying the house every month with 1 can of flea spray helped.

Now in new house and alot or furniture I am finding that hard but I will get rid of them. Keep trying we will win the war with the fleas.

Tips:
* Hoover really well everyday - bagless hoover good and empty it when finished.
* Tumble dry your clothes (i dont have one now but i think it helped at old house)
* Bath the dog before you put flea stuff on.
* Hoover your mattress.
* Get rid of carpet and get lamminate flooring.

Sorry, but flea eggs can live for months. The heat has nothing to do with it. It is their life cycle.

Your mistake was not continuing to use frontline.

Apply it to your dogs, vaccuum and you should be fine. If you want to be completely safe, use bug bombs. You can do it room by room. Just tape up the vents of the rooms you are doing it in and make sure pets are not in that room.

At this point, they are probably still primarily on your dogs.

Add: Flea eggs can live for a long time. Nothing else happened except you did not get rid of all of the eggs the first time. No need to panic. The cat had nothing to do with it.
This is really your fault for not continuously treating the dogs.

Tear out all your carpeting from your house and spray the floors with insecticide from a pest control dealer. We did that one time at a rental propery and it took care of the fleas and didn't have them anymore. You can spray it yourselve and save money. We used a big spray plastic tank. Can't remember what the name was. It has been 17 yrs ago. Hope this helped.

Fleas do not "jump" from host to host. They crawl across in close contact. It is highly unlikely that it is that darned cat.

However, it could be (as we found) a family of hedgehogs!......... now their fleas are right vicious little gits!

Whatever they might be, they DO like warm carpets! Therefore you need to treat them. Now, in my experience, they tend to favour fairly well defined areas.

A swift treatment, but only temporary, is to blast the infested area with fly spray. That will stop the most energetic in their tracks. Longer term treatment is best carried out with flea POWDER.......... easily available from the local pet shop.

Dust the dog as well. Frontline is great at dealing with dog fleas, but not with hedgehog fleas, or rodent fleas (YEP! there are specific species for specific hosts!)
