Oh YEAH.... watch the movies, Enemy Of The State, with Will Smith and, Gene Hackman and, The Firm with, Tom Cruise. I have a very good friend that was in Army Intel, He has shown me several gadgets that can be used by anyone to spy on us. Our government has and uses them daily, and so do other governments in other countries. How do you think the one world leader, who will soon take his/her place, keep control and know what we are doing, if it is not true.

I've also been told that all the electronical devises produced since 2000 have monitoring devices that can be activated even when the item is turned off.... ie TV's, Video Cameras, Cell Phones and, many others.

Beware BIG BROTHER IS WATCHING !!!!!! There is really nothing you can do, outside of just unpluging it, or an easier way put a thick dark cover over it

It is unlikely for someone to hack the actual session. More probably they would do something like hack the website you use, steal a password to impersonate your friend, or hack into your computer. All of these are indirect ways. To prevent someone from getting control over your computer, don't download any programs from somewhere you don't trust. I can imagine if you did that you could get some kind of trojan backdoor like Subnet and then some scriptkiddie would be opening and closing your CD tray and be able to view your webcam stuff lol

Now let me get this straight... Isn't the purpose of a webcam so people CAN see what you're doing? If you're worried about someone hacking your webcam, they've already had to succeed in hacking into your computer which will yield a WHOLE lot more stuff than whatever it is that you happen to be doing.

The average person cannot, but if somone is targeting you and they know enough about computers, anything is possible. Just dont annoy any nerds, I suggest you point hte cam away if you are not using it.
Make sure your firewalls are working properly and you have permitted the right programs.

it would take a highly skilled hacker to get through but there are a few simple ways to stop people.

-have a firewall
-set access to negative unless "I say so"
-if you have an easy to setup webcam, unplug it when not in use.

Yes - it is possible, but it also unlikely. If you are concerned about this just disconnect it when it is not in use. If its a built-in one like on the new Apple computers a small piece of tape can cover it up.

Technically yes.

Get a router which will act as a hardware firewall and hide your system behind it. Cheapest thing to add the most complexity to the hack.

I don't even have a webcam but if it's off then I'm pretty sure nobody would be able to see you. I hope that's what you were asking lol.
